I thought this was a baby onesie at first glance and for one shining moment I imagined having a child of my own I could force to wear it, just for the lulz.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 hours ago

there isn't. that's why you need to treat them like shit IRL and give them consequences for their actions

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, there's not.

It's a nice thought though. The worst most bad people ever experiences just the negative cause-and-effect for their own actions, like the awful parent whose kids won't visit them when they're old. That our time is limited and bad people experience a more negative reality overall is the closest we come to a hell.

I am, however, glad that when we die the lights simply go out.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 3 hours ago

To be fair, just saying "there's not" or "it's just lights out" isn't exactly more than faith itself anyway. Do you have any evidence to support your claim? Or just "well, I ain't seen it!" like how my Dad thinks the moon landing was fake?

A small percentage of people that die and are revived report NDEs of going to an actual hell-like or negative place and having a bad time. I think it's like 10-15% or so of people that remember anything from and NDE have a "distressing" experience. So there's a lot of people out there who have seen a "hell," and you're ignoring that survey data collected by the University of Virginia at the very least. Seems a bit sloppy, yet confident in yourself. Why?

Though, personally, I think "hell" is just the suffering and fear people heap upon themselves. Two people sitting next to each other on the train can literally be one person in heaven, having the time of their lives, one in a personal hell of anxiety and fear and terror. YMMV I guess.

This is honestly the hardest part about being an atheist.

[–] MarieMarion@literature.cafe 15 points 9 hours ago

I first thought it was a onesie. For babies. It went too hard then.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 60 points 14 hours ago (4 children)

Thought this was a onesie for a newborn for a sec

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago

Good for the newborn.

[–] Octavio@piefed.social 6 points 10 hours ago

I thought it was right up until I saw this very comment.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 10 points 11 hours ago

It can be 🤷‍♂️

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 16 points 13 hours ago

[–] GonzoAtBarstow@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

if hell is the absence of god then this is hell

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

I will argue that hell is the lack of warmth. I grew up on the equator and moved to somewhere it snows occasionally. The cold sucks.

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

According to Dante, that’s the ninth circle of hell because it’s farthest from God’s warmth.

[–] Octavio@piefed.social 4 points 9 hours ago

That must've been hot. I moved to the Tropic of Cancer and that's as close to the equator as I want to get. Sometimes I miss playing in the snow, but I don't miss shoveling it.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 3 points 9 hours ago

Insane take. Everyone knows hell is hot. Ergo summer = hell Q.E.D.

[–] the_q@piefed.social 9 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

This life is hell and we're all sinners.

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

The Mayans were right. The world actually ended in 2012 and this is just hell.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

The Mayans never said the world would end, they simply used a cyclical calendar.

Not for the ones who deserve it most and that is the problem.

[–] blujan@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago

No, but that makes sense if we're in the bad place. The people on top that should be getting tortured (according to us) are the only ones having a good time, this unfairness might be part of our experience in the bad place.

[–] BitUnWise@programming.dev 2 points 9 hours ago

Hell is compatible with Atheism, though I haven't met a hell (as in punishment for bad people in the afterlife) believing atheist

I flutter near a humanist buddhism. Sometimes I hope that reincarnation is correct and that some of them reincarnate into hell
