Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

I don't care what y'all think. Nothing about my food being hot or even warm makes it any better for me. I always burn tongue and even if I don't, I really don't enjoy rushing to swallow because my mouth is at risk of inflicting pain. Even when it's slightly warm, I don't like it. I want my food stone cold, no matter what the food is.

I always let my food cool down, not even to room temperature, I let it cool even longer and I eat everything stone cold. It lets me properly savor the flavor, without worrying about too much heat. Eating cold food for me is a relaxing experience, eating hot food is a panic-inducing one, and eating slightly warm food is boring, not any better than stone cold food. I'll even gladly eat food straight out of the fridge and enjoy it! I've been called "crazy" and "perverse" for this many, many times.

I like my food stone cold and refuse to eat it even mildly warm, always letting it cool down way below room temperature. Screw what anyone thinks πŸ˜†

"Stone cold" usually describes a facial expression, not a temperature.

always letting it cool down way below room temperature

You can't let something cool below room temperature as it would just reach equilibrium at room temperature. You have to actively cool it (like put it in a fridge) to cool it below room temperature.

[–] JadedBlueEyes@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Stone cold describes temperature just as often. Right??

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, its first entry is literal, with figurative use second.

stone-cold

"1 : completely cold"

So yes, it is absolutely used to describe temperature.

[–] remon@ani.social 1 points 1 day ago

Not that I'm aware of.

[–] riverdoc@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That's incorrect. Evaporative cooling may reduce the temperature beyond room temp, depending on how much moisture is available on the food.

[–] remon@ani.social 1 points 23 hours ago

Sure, but only a few degrees and only temporarily.

[–] davetortoise@reddthat.com 17 points 1 day ago

Upvoted for being dumbass

You must really like Cold Stone Creamery and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

How does this even work if you eat somewhere that doesn’t have a fridge for you to cool your food below room temperature? What’s wrong with you that you β€œalways” burn your tongue even at nonburning temps?

Sensory differences are a thing. Although I doubt OP literally "burns" their tongue on luke-warm foods, it's possible OP has a sensory difference that makes warm food more difficult to tolerate, or possibly even painful.

For me, my brain interprets certain light touches as "painful." I can tolerate having my hairs pulled out one-by-one and feel fine, but touch me in the wrong spot with a feather and I'll scream. I can easily imagine other people may have crossed wires in their nervous system somewhere that make certain temperature sensations on a sensitive tongue feel painful.

Upvote for an actual unpopular opinion. Well done.

You think cereal is better cold?!

There really are a lot of strange people on the internet. 😏 /s

Possibly the worst opinion here

[–] ComicalMayhem@lemmy.world 113 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah that's definitely unpopular. I could not imagine eating everything cold, like what the fuck?

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sue me
I do indeed eat everything cold. I get soo much shit from my bf for that πŸ˜‚

I used to get ripped on for eating Chunky soup from a can on construction sites.

The caveat it, during winter you need warm food to get your body temp back up, but spring to fall, fair game.

Objectively and demonstrably wrong. Excellent post.

So when did you find out you had autism?

I love cold Pizza and cold fried chicken. That's where I draw the line unless it's food that is meant to be served cold/room temp.

[–] square@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I consider both of those to be completely different foods from their hot versions. It's always hard for me to decide if I want the leftovers heated up or not.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is not an insult. Have you taken any tests to see if you may be autistic? If not, you should.

[–] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I enjoy my food cold as well, and I am diagnosed as autistic. So you might be onto something.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

That was my first thought too. Definitely not medical advice, though.

If you are that concerned about burning your mouth or your tongue on even slightly warm food, I can recommend a really good therapist to help you out on that.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 days ago

I'm currently switching therapists, so not talking to one at the moment. However, I'm almost positive I have some form of OCD, not just because of this.

[–] thatsTheCatch@lemmy.nz 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think this wins the comm. Even more than the BJ post

That is a hot take, irony intended.

There’s probably some good scientific reason for eating meat hot. And coffee? I can kinda deal but the tea? Throw it straight out if it’s not piping hot and I don’t care how the Americans take it.

In case you ever want to try eating warm food again, try putting a stone next to the food in the oven. That way the food will be stone cold and warm at the same time.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

That rocks.

How do you "let something cool down" further than room temperature? You can't really let something just sit still and cool more than the ambient temperature, so you must use some form of cooling element, like ice cubes or something.

Or this is bait, I honestly can't tell.

I cannot comprehend this. Seriously, all the more power to you but what the fuck

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I do disagree and you have my upvote. Just had a nice bowl of chili, pretty hot in both senses of the word, toast and hot coffee for breakfast.

A cool refreshing salad, sure. Sandwich is good cold (except grilled cheese). Cold french fries suck, cold scrambled eggs are horrible.

Thank you for your unsettling opinion.

Sitting here with my tongue hurting from some hot tea... πŸ€”
