You need a VPN that you trust. They act as a middle man between you and the Internet.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It depends on the country. Some countries don't give a shit about piracy.

[–] CheetahHybrid@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't state what country, and weather they care about piracy is kind of irrelevant. You have a right to chose who you trust. I know I for sure don't trust my ISP

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

It's pretty relevant, actually. It's nice when you have choice. Not every ISP in my country is a big-name corporate shitbag (despite the best efforts and constant lobbying of said big-name corporate shitbags), and they are allowed equal-ish access to the last mile communication networks at (arbitrarily inflated) wholesale prices. It's still worth the price, though. We even have some internet co-ops running their own fiber. And if they don't care about piracy, and you trust them to stay that way, then what's the trouble? Yes it is hard to gauge who to trust, but that's the game we have to play.

usa 💀 🔥🚫🏴‍☠️😡

which is good for piracy and privacy and speed?

[–] CheetahHybrid@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I personally use Private Internet Access but I have mixed opinions. I can say they have a history of privacy protection but like any company that could change. Their speeds are also a inconsistent. I don't have experience with other vpn's

PIA bought by Kape technology which known for package bloatware and very sus. Not know if did anything to PIA but not good look.

As others said get a VPN (depending on where in the world you are this might not be that important if you're country doesn't care about western copyright mafia much) and then check out:

If you're only talking about the download process, and you are downloading at home, then a trustworthy VPN is the (only?) way to go. I'd look into Mullvad or IVPN.

If you are also talking about other processes surrounding downloading, such as registration, creating accounts, communicating with people over the Internet, use fake names ( https://www.scifiideas.com/cyberpunk-name-generator/ ), e-mail aliases ( https://simplelogin.io/ ) and respectable DNS providers ( https://quad9.net/ ).

[–] jlow@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mullvad is unfortunately run by fascists so a bad choice if you're not one.

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Start a relatively trustworthy no logs vpn and I am sure people will move right over.

I think I had heard about that, but what did they do again?

thanks also hoe do u open the files without them having any chance of interent conention and cant see other files?

thanks for the email recc btw everyone reccomends proton/tuta theyre ok but dont work with tor

[–] ivn@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If it's just a media file it should not be able to access anything except for extremely unlikely scenario. If it's an application like a game it's different and the solution depends on your OS.

Also tuta and proton work with tor:

[–] lemmingsareawesome@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

thanks the error i was getting on tuta was browser not supported so i thought it woldnt work

protons home page works but log in is "sorry there was an error" or "no connection"

[–] ivn@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 1 points 1 week ago

Is this with the tor browser? Are you using the onion service for Proton?

[–] akunohana@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

open the files without them having any chance of interent conention and cant see other files Use a VM and don't give it internet connectivity.

I use Tuta because Proton has grown too big for my taste. What do you mean it doesn't work with Tor? Tor is supposed to be your network layer foundation of your connection and shouldn't have to do with what applications you run on top of it. And just to clarify: Simple Login is not an e-mail provider. It's an e-mail alias provider.
