- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).

Ban lengths, etc.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)
And the UK would have to say goodbye to the ยฃ. I do wonder how the change will be taken by the general public.
Eeeh Sweden is still using crowns (and it doesn't have an exemption like Denmark does).
Because they made a deal when they joined, same with Denmark. Difference between them is that the Danish Crown is tied to the Euro, which the Swedish is not.
Anyone who wants to join the EU now will have to convert to the Euro.
Nope that's incorrect, Sweden is obligated to join Euro but they just don't.
Half incorrect ๐คช you're right about Sweden, I'm right about Denmark. Thanks for correcting me!
That's not certain. At this point it's just used as a means to dissuade UK citizens from wanting back into the EU.
If we get to a point where the EU will only let us rejoin if we change to the euro (an unlikely scenario) then that is the time to consider whether it's worth it. Not now.
It took them 10 years to find out what they were told and did not want to believe: Shooting yourself hurts. If they ever rejoin they will have wasted decades for nothing and ruined many lives. This is what an incompetent ruling class accomplishes. They have no clue what they want and no plan to achieve it. Dictatorship of the proletariat is overdue.
jfc. Everyone was like "we wanna stay!" and they didn't listen. Now they've learnt that the EU was actually beneficial, and they wanna go back. What a colossal waste of billions of pounds.
less talk more action on that one please Burn
These are just words. Set a date for a referendum or say nothing. Promisocracy is a disease.
Him saying that publicly is braver than most things I heard from Labour politicians in the last years. No one had the courage to speak openly about even just the possibility of rejoining.
didn't need a referendum to leave, Don't need one to attempt to rejoin
How else to test the public opinion, but with promisocracy? It can be withdrawn at any time with an 'obviously not now, but maybe one day if the people want it, ya know?!'
Yep, you don't get this chance often, and fearmongering goes far and can blow up the whole thing, just look at what happened in Iceland.
Just do it without some referendum.
UK thinks they can just rejoin at will. Cute.
Oh, they can. After following the same path every other country that want to join.
And after giving up to all their previous privileges...
EU would be more than happy to have them back. Macron and Sanchez said as much this afternoon.
But not under the old rules and exceptions. This is why it will never happen, UK exceptionalism is as bad as the Unites States.
You say that with certainty; we have to try and negotiate reentry to see which terms we would be offered. Nobody knows.
It goes both ways, but obviously the UK needs the EU more than the other way around. It would be very arrogant to think otherwise; just pull the stats.
True.
One of the talking points during Brexit was how UK paid more to EU than they received. Seems logical, big country, much economy. Many people voted because of that argument. Turns out to be false.
A cost benefit analysis shows that UK received up to 6 times more from EU than the cost.
As a EU citizen, I'd be happy to have them join again, because I believe that the benefits of EU come from cooperation between nations rather than any particular group paying for the other. They can even keep their currency and stupid passport, but they can forget about the previous privileged terms with selective opt-in.
Macron is telling whatever he wants because his presidential term ends in 6 months.
I hope they'll rejoin the EU one day, ideally we end up stronger united than before and not like an on/off-relationship...
one wrong red card next world cup and UK is out again after another referendumb.
I can hear the angry gammon noises from here.
Nigel farce said NO
Ahh the piece of shit decided to look less like a piece of shit while still being one cause he wont actually do anything to achieve that. I dont know what happens when you get inaugurated to be uk pm but they seem to tear you spine out cause all of them turn into spineless fucks.
What's going on with Burnham? I am really not well informed...
Generally looking very positive for him at the moment. Way more popular than the outgoing PM. Has since said lots of things other politicians would avoid: Nationalising infrastructure, Fixing Social Care, Rejoining the EU, reforming the electoral system. It's early days, probably not possible for him to do everything he talks about. Generally a solid social democratic outlook.
Neither am I, but even mentioning rejoining the EU when far right is stronger than ever is pretty bold I'd say, there's a reason PMs before him have avoided saying it.
That reason is cowardice, and it's why the far right continue to do so well. Appeasement does not work. "The left has to offer an alternative" is what we've been screaming throughout Starmer's premiership, and now we're getting it.
He had a bunch of good policies, got into office and instantly fired pro palestine people, went back on his policies, basically summed up he was like "oh this is harder than i thought it would be". Unlike mamdani for example who promised and delivered on what he could(of course there are things that are harder to achieve and things that aee easier), burnham basically just gave up on doing anything like every other fucking politician. He isnt especially bad, hes kinda meh, but why i had such a bad reaction to him is that i expected him to be an actually good change like mamdani.
Do you think it is fair to compare the outcomes of a city mayor to the prime Minister of the UK? I'm not asking this rhetorically, but it personally doesn't feel of the same calibre job.
No but i could campare to the prime minister of hungary, peter magyar but i thought i would give an example more well known in the west.
Do the Peter Magyar please. He should be known well enough in c/europe.
What's he given up on? Not sure he's tried anything yet...
