This is why I’ve never really understood branded clothing. I won’t wear it, because it’s just an advertisement. Genuinely don’t understand how society fell so hard for that one. I get luxury brand show off for shallow reasons, but shit- and mid-tier brands?

[–] ElDuderino@lemmus.org 2 points 3 days ago

I think most people are into it for the flex factor, i.e. as an indicator of conspicuous consumption and therefore status. A lot of people genuinely give a shit about that stuff. Some even organize their whole lives around it.

[–] NCSK@fedia.io 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

i think shit tier is cheap because it also poses as advertisement?

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

The base clothes before branding is added are much cheaper.

[–] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (4 children)

So what do you wear? I want to reduce the amount of ads I wear, but plain tshirts don't look so good with my extra belly weight. I need something on the shirt. But what? And I commonly just wear shorts, so it can't look remotely formal.

[–] TownhouseGloryHole@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I saw a man in a shirt that read, "Its not a gut, it's a fuel tank for my sex machine" that I thought was rather fetching.

I have one that says "world's best sixpack abs" and then there's a picture of a sixpack of beer cans.

It's size 5XL and I once wore it to a doctor's appointment 😁

There are a lot of options on tee public these days.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

I just advertise for local metal bands, personally

Layers, patterns, gradients, and screen printed art, mostly.

Lots of screen printed art. I’m a big fan of mashup designs where two or more IPs are mixed, like star wars and star trek mixed and represented as chibbi cartoons, basically just someone’s fan art on a t-shirt or sweatshirt, such that you aren’t really advertising any of them as its not immediately clear what’s even on it. Also just art I like. Tons of places to get stuff like that. I also have a lot of shirts with jokes and phrases and the like.

Layers are good if you live somewhere that isnt too ridiculously hot, plain or gradient base t (or one of the more basic screen printed shirts) under a contrasting over-shirt is good. Really opens up the options because basically anything button or zip works, patterns or solid colors, and the extra fabric layer hides a lot of imperfections.

I do a lot of thrifting, especially when I travel, because the variety tends to span different styles and eras and people buy stuff online that ends up there, but it takes a while to really build up the wardrobe that way.

Layers are out because I spend half my day wishing I wasn't wearing a shirt at all. Constantly warm. I call in manopause, lol. Screen printed art sounds good, but where can you get it on quality shirts. It always seems to be on low quality materials when I see it.

Hahahaha no You receive a visit from my system -arr. I receive your content on my jellyfin server

[–] Raccoon_Rick@altgag.net 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is the way to go. Getting transmission behind a VPN was a bit tricky but it was so worth it

[–] Foni@piefed.zip 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Everyone uses their own system, in my country sharing via torrent (as long as there is no profit) is not a legal problem, so instead of VPN I use duckdns and ngix proxy manager for access, with two manuals and a couple of afternoons to get everything working everything goes great

I'm so confused as to why people are still paying for streaming services.

[–] cb900f_bodhi@fedinsfw.app 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

As far as I can tell, it is just habit, laziness and convenience. My wife literally prefers to scroll Hulu for 30 mins and settle on some 10 yr old trashy reality TV show. All in order to avoid browsing Jellyfin. Some people want to be passively fed junk TV, instead of actively seeking out quality shows they intentionally want to watch. She chooses to pay for this kind of interaction. Boggles my mind too.

My partner fought me tooth and nail not to cancel all streaming services. What got them to change their mind was the "request board" I put a short cut to a text file on every pc that points to a file on my pc. Whenever I see it updated I go out and find whatever ridiculous request they put on there. It's always the worst trash tv one could possibly think of but thats ok I don't have to watch it.

Now they has an endless supply of brain rot and I got to banish the blood sucking leeches that are streaming services.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bah, damn near every pirate streaming site or torrent I've found has audio tracks in multiple languages.

[–] sigurdtheone@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Sometimes but danish dubbed kids shows can be hard to find.. or so I've heard..

[–] PM_ME_SOMETHING@fedinsfw.app 2 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I've been trying to switch over to the arr stack, and for anything new it's great, but my girlfriend likes to watch some older obscure stuff (previous Halloween Baking Championship for example) which I'm having a hard time finding. Lots of stalled torrents, etc. Maybe I just need to get into some private trackers, but there is still some things that stream wins out for currently for us.

[–] yggstyle@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Torrents are, by design, popularity based bandwidth... Might I suggest newsgroups that can have retention of 25+ years? Oh and the speeds are enough to make your (insert connection type) beg for mercy.

https://champagne.pages.dev/

Try this, it might not help you find what you need but it could help you discover lots of things you weren't otherwise aware of.

[–] tyler@programming.dev 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Switch to Usenet. Torrents are honestly terrible.

[–] PM_ME_SOMETHING@fedinsfw.app 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I've heard of them but I admittedly shyed away from them since I'm not familiar with how they work. Are they free like torrents or do you need to pay to access them?

[–] tyler@programming.dev 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Usually you have to pay for them. Free ones are available but they don’t have much available.

Remember, Netflix got popular because it was an access issue, not a payment issue. People were fine with paying, just not overpaying.

[–] PM_ME_SOMETHING@fedinsfw.app 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is there one you'd recommend, or how would I go about picking one? Do they all have everything, or does it depend on what shows/movies I'm interested in?

Sorry for all the questions, I've been curious about this stuff for a bit but I'm the only pirate in my friend group

[–] tyler@programming.dev 1 points 3 days ago

Oh completely going to depend. Not sure I could give advice. I set all my stuff up when Reddit was still decent and I haven’t switched it in that time. I use Giganews if that helps any, but trackers are going to completely depend on what you’re looking for (anime, oldies, etc).

[–] Prox@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't have the gear or the knowledge to get new content in full quality (4k with Atmos).

I buy UHD discs whenever possible, but still.

[–] bad1080@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago

ads and poorly sanitized movies

[–] Catalyst_A@quokk.au 3 points 4 days ago

Join the pirates and sail the great seas. Download Torrent digger and libre torrent from F-Droid and on Linux get qbittorent and look up how to install all pirate sites into its own search engine in the app. Pirate away comrades, it saves lives. Don't forget a good VPN like iVPN.
