If only they would revamp The End, but The Sift is nice too...

Why do anything cool when they can spend 6 months adding 1 feature from a mod?
At this point is there anything for them to add that isn't part of a mod?
Publish it on Steam, add controller support and splitscreen and no MS account needed. That's all I want. I want my kids to be able to play it on the living room TV without anyone having to do anything in order for it to happen.
Steam and independent accounts are never gonna happen unless they sell the ip unfortunately. Unless you download the cracked prism launcher but absolutely do not download that from the github repo, its illegal!
They could add another fictional animal in a vote (while a mod adds all the options before the vote finishes instead of just the winner).
The game has limitless untapped potential.
They could make whole new dimensions that are essentially a new game plus. With new, harder mobs, bosses with actual mechanics, new gear, resources, etc.
The creative sandbox aspect of the game is fantastic, I love creating things and seeing what other people make, but the survival aspect has had no real expansion. Their horrible balancing and failed combat update leaves no wiggle room for new weapons. The wooden axe does the same damage as a diamond sword.
Sounds like you just want to play modded
I have a lot. I want to see an official twist on it. Something that everyone can discuss and doesnt become irrelevant.
At this point, I'm sincerely considering moving everthing to Luanti. But i'm uncertain between VoxeLibre or Mineclonia.
You can download both and see which one tickles your fancy more, but I prefer Mineclonia. There WILL be differences as Luanti is a fundamentally different engine from Minecraft, but generally you'll feel right at home.
Currently the biggest differences for me are that lapis lazuli is stupidly rare compared to Minecraft, and there are no unique stepping sounds for other mobs so it's like Alpha and Beta where a creeper's footsteps can blend in with chickens, cows, and pigs. Dual wielding is also currently primitive, and Nether portals tend to put you in the middle of lava seas. Caves are stupidly dark but that might get improved on.
But I did manage to build myself a nice big house with an inner courtyard, and get myself to the End and come back with an elytra and shulker boxes.
Hmm, good question as I haven't really engaged with Luanti recently! Been playing Vintage Story if a block game is on the menu...However, sometimes just flipping a coin and going with the first one is a good idea. Also, there is nothing stopping you from trying both out and finding the one that works better!
I just gave it a go a week or two ago and it's been so fun. Caves are basically infinitely deep, and the cave gen produces a lot of cool things. We just found a MASSIVE opening in a cave, we've been exploring a single room for hours and still haven't found it all, we're probably going to build a base in the cave cuz it takes 15 minutes just to get down there. Not everything feels finished, like the mobs are way less interesting, and the surface is generally less dense, but some things like mining are just so much cooler.
They made those ~~annoying~~ amazing light flares. What more do you want?? (/s)
Still no Aether in vanilla... 😞
I'm old
Minecraft is such a weird one. My son was playing it with his friends and invited me onto the server to show me around. I was pretty impressed with all the new items and biomes and stuff as it got updated god knows how many times since I was last on it.
Told his pals "sorry my dad doesnt know anything about Minecraft". It temporarily broke me. On the one hand he's right. On the other hand I had about 600 hours on it before he was even born.
I explained this to my kid too. When I played like a decade ago there was like 1/3rd of what there is in the game now. I played Minecraft, but it's basically like a sequel now.
WITHOUT SPOILERS PLS;
I like to play minecraft without the wiki or looking up game mechanics. Is there any reasonable way I could organically encounter this dimension within normal gameplay? Or should I look up how it works?
It'll show up in Minecraft Dungeons 2. The dimension itself won't come out in Minecraft until next year.
I feel the advancement tab is decent for finding stuff without leaving the game. It's still looking up hints, just ingame. I'd love for them to add readable books in ancient ruins to give you hints instead. Idk how they'll give hints for this tho
I dunno, my 35 year old sister in law just started playing she still hasn't discovered that the nether exists, and hasn't done any enchanting after 3 weeks. Some lore or even a handbook would probably help a lot.
I played it for even longer and still don't know how to enter the nether. I want to find it out by myself but there don't seem to be a lot of clues
I don't want to spoil this rare quest you elected to take on. But you should've seen those obsidian structures surrounded by lava and magma. I would inspect those.
The game gives you no hints. It expects you to know, just like games don't really instruct on how to use the joystick.
I will check it out! Good thing I have heaps of diamond items because I was basically just mining, building houses and trying to map the world haha
You might need three diamonds (or, if you're feeling adventurous, two buckets) to do something and make these structures operational :)
And after you learn it, you can make yours.
No way to tell until the update drops I imagine, but the nether and the wither can be organically encountered/spawned (ruined portals and a specific painting) so I think there's a pretty good chance
Would be nice to get Minecraft in Steam too
Edit: just came on to find all these replies. What I mean is that I abandoned Windows and only use macOS and Linux now. I prefer Bedrock over Java and there is no way I am aware of to play Bedrock except using something like the Android version which isn’t the same.
I just wish we could get a release on Steam in addition to the launcher and other ways we currently have. If nothing else than putting the launcher in Steam and a way to somehow use Proton to play it in Linux, at the very least.
Microsoft doesn’t want that to happen for obvious reasons, so this won’t ever happen.
Games not on Valve's platform and are hosted elsewhere is a good thing! So that way if Steam even collapses for whatever reason...Not all games are lost! Not every game needs to be on Steam.
God damnit! How am I going to play RuneScape now that it's on steam! It's on steam so it can't possibly be available anywhere else!(I'm just taking the piss. I agree with where you're coming from)
Sure, but a game can be on multiple platforms at once...
Honestly, I don't see the point of adding Minecraft to Steam. As it already exists on so many platforms; I don't see Microsoft or Mojang being interested in sharing a revenue cut with Valve for every sale. As they mainly distribute Minecraft from their website and support several computer OS, they have the most to gain from following KISS in this instance.
Minecraft in Steam would be a downgrade in every way (Minecraft already has no DRM, lets you freely download and play old versions, doesn't require the official launcher to start, is easily modded, and so on).
I don't see how Steam would make any difference.
- Implementing any kind of DRM is the game developer's prerogative.
- Allowing other versions is possible, again, at the developer's convenience.
- No other launcher needed besides Steam (and Steam is very far from being only a launcher)
- Steam Workshop (because fuck Forge)
The only downside I can see is that Steam doesn't have a way to maintain multiple instances of the same game.
Implementing any kind of DRM is the game developer's prerogative.
Yes, sure, but Steam encourages the use of the DRM included in the Steamworks API.
If Minecraft could only be downloaded through Steam, that would also be a step back insofar that right now, Mojang will let you download the game without any authentication at all. Changing this would be quite inconvenient for mod developers.
Allowing other versions is possible, again, at the developer's convenience.
How? With branches / betas? There are a limit to those, and I'm pretty sure Minecraft exceeds them already. And as you already mentioned, you couldn't use multiple versions at the same time. The only alternative (that I know of), the download_depot method, is far from user-friendly.
No other launcher needed besides Steam (and Steam is very far from being only a launcher)
That would reduce the number of launchers required from 1 to… 1. 🙃
Steam Workshop
The workshop is integrated into Steam and can only be used there (can't download the files manually, as far as I know). It's also way too simple for the modding needs Minecraft has (with its multiple versions, dependencies or breakage between mods, modpacks…).
It would also require Mojang to write their own mod loader, which would likely be too limiting for most mod developers. (And Forge is not the only mod loader out there. There are far better ones, like Fabric.)
There's just no point to doing this. You'd replace a system that works very well with one that doesn't. Steam generally works pretty well for managing games, but I don't believe there would be any improvement if Mojang were to switch to it for Minecraft.
They could still do all that on steam.
Why not just add it as a non Steam game? Or do you mean for like multiplayer stuff with Steam friends? Either way it should work.
Prism launcher. S-tier Mc launcher
Microsoft account DRM isn't enough for you?
Ah yes, the famous DRM.
Some launchers allow you to play fully offline, but only after you've authenticated and started the game at least once with a real Microsoft account. The launcher has a sophisticated validation mechanism to ensure this: a single boolean value stored in a JSON file. Set that to true and you're good to go.
And yet the Microsoft account migration which can be easily defeated by a JSON file according to you has attracted a class action lawsuit. Curious. Almost as if circumventing it is not my point.
The unofficial Minecraft Pocket Edition Launcher you seem to have alluded to in your edit is pretty nice, and feels almost as if it's a native port of Bedrock to Linux. All the Google and Android stuff is abstracted away.
Minecraft already has too much big tech influence on it with Microsoft, let's not add Valve's grubby fingers into the pie now, shall we?
