Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If cops are willing to follow these orders, they'll follow any orders.

Getting rid of the politicians and flock isn't enough. We desperately need to fix our police forces "it's gonna be hard" ain't an excuse

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly you could probably just nuke their funding and let them bleed out, while also raising up militia to fill the void with a blacklist for cops unless they take certain actions. Ideally the militia would have relatively high standards and would be largely disarmed or otherwise equipped with less than lethal gear for daily patrols.

[–] Mika@piefed.ca 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The old cops would form the organized mafia day one after this decision. Disarmed militia would look silly against that.

The cop said, “You’re under arrest,” grabbed her arms, and pulled her out of the room. “I can do this all night. I get paid by the hour,” the cop added.

Using this against the person whose taxes pay his salary is especially telling. He doesn’t serve this community, he abuses it.

[–] ksigley@lemmy.world 103 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Most police officers don't sign up because they're good people.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

they sign up because they would be unhireable elsewhere, even walmart/amazon wont take these people.

[–] habitualcynic@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

I worked for one of these companies and fired a former cop for racial slurs and anger problems.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Good people don't make it through police training. The would be good cops are scared off.

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago

And the ones who do don't last long

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

He doesn’t serve this community, he abuses it.

Well, duh.

Hes a cop.

They serve nothing but the rich and powerful.

the common folk are just fodder to get their thrills with and express their frustrations on.

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Cops like that should be fired and permanently bared from retirement and reinstatement

These cunts live every day without nearly enough fear of being tarred and feathered. That really ought to change.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Why would they have fear? How many people watched this happen in person and did nothing? If anyone there had any balls they'd stand up and not let it happen. I guarantee there were A LOT more citizens than security.

The US was founded on action, not petition signatures of how "upset" you are. Until people actually put their perverbial cock on the chopping block, things will only get worse.

ya but if the poors do it its 'terrorism' and when the rich do it it's 'war'

or at least thats how it seems

[–] Bustedknuckles@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

I think it's worse. When the rich do it, it's "Law and Order"

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The only way these flock cameras are coming down legally is if people use the cameras against their local council.

Use the various means to get into the cameras or just set up shop outside their comes and note what time they go in and out of their home. Note their children's clothes, what school they go to and their car license plate numbers.

Provide print outs and distribute them at the meeting. Be sure to have them for the news people outside.

Council members think they are special and aren't going to be targeted by Flock. We need to show them that the laws that work for Flock work for us too.

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 week ago

Lol, they'll just arrest you for stalking.

The laws that work for Flock don't work for us too.

Schrag ordered citizens to clear the room and shut off cameras recording the event.

Aww, what’s wrong with cameras, Mayor Schrag? Does the idea of being filmed all the time make you feel uncomfortable for some reason?

[–] devdoggy@piefed.social 83 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I love that the woman give the finger and then said, probably not my most shining moment.

No, it is your shining moment!! Give them all the finger when you get arrested!! Hell yeah!!! 🖕🖕🖕

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

Maybe one of the most important moments of her life

Give them all the finger when you get arrested!! Hell yeah!!! 🖕🖕🖕

First of all, I wholeheartedly concur.

Secondly, it's very impressive that you feel so passionate about it that you grew a third hand 🤘🏼😄✊🏼

I always wonder how many local politicians have been paid off by Flock.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Once it's used to stalk them and that stalking results in something nasty or scandalous, they'll care, and cry and whine about how it's such a violation of their rights.

Wow. Fascists gonna fash, apparently.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Great, now she can sue the city for wrongful arrest.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 week ago

And the tax payers can pay for it, the arresting officer can get some paid leave, no one involved in the decision will face any consequences for it, and it has still provided a chilling effect on anyone else who wants to speak out.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 41 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

If they won't let you voice your opinion in public do it at their house. Don't let these fuckers feel safe.

Springfield, Missouri, USA ↑

(Sometimes because there are so many articles about atrocities/indignities being committed across the country I feel the need to localize for readers who just glance in)

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

You ever want to talk about a shithole, Springfield Missouri is that shithole.

Take the most conservative hillbillies, midwestern rednecks, people with too much money and no education, racists of every flavor, and Nazis flying their Nazi flags in public.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 41 points 1 week ago (5 children)

That mayor DOES obviously have a tiny, stinky cock.

From another article:

"I believe that the purpose of public hearings or when there's actually something of substance, if there's nothing of substance, it just becomes kind of theater," Schrag stated

So dissenting opinions on needless surveillance is by definition "theater" and can't POSSIBLY be of substance, according to this poorly endowed stinkphallus.

We're there to do the people's business.

By shutting the people up, says the possessor of an infinitesimal and pungent Johnson.

He said he understands that people have concerns, but has also heard from Springfield Police on the usefulness of the technology.

Big "you may like your civil liberties but they're bothersome to the SS" energy from he of the malodorous micropenis.

Schrag explains that giving the committee 9 months allows them to look into the full scope of both sides.

Without in any way requiring them to respect the wishes of their constituency, Tiny Toxicpants neglected to add.

just throwing thing, after thing, after thing at staff is not an appropriate way to get results,

Said Schrag, whose own thing can be detected by odor three counties away, but isn't visible with the naked eye at a distance of one foot.

When your representatives don't represent you, shift the focus to who they are representing. Get loud and don't stop. Overflow the room for every public meeting of any kind. Dominate all public comment. These folks aren't your neighbors, they are neighbors to the municipal consultants the city pays to draw the master plan. Clear cut your trees, zone for data centers, build surveillance infrastructure, close your public schools, install unnecessary roundabouts and raise your utility costs.

[–] ContriteErudite@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (7 children)

I’m with you on everything except roundabouts. For moderate traffic intersections, they are more efficient than stoplights and stop signs. Opposition to them seems largely confined to those who regard wide arcs and looking left for other traffic as unreasonable demands against their intellect.

Russians are getting arrested for calling Putin a dickhead, how is this any different?

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

It's not. I won't be surprised if people start falling out of windows soon too

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

next time, bring security detail... see if they will approach then.

Lots of people will be facing tribunals when this is over. We the people will not forget the actions of fascists.

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

When this is over

At the pace Americans are overturning the Trump regime, even Big Balls will be dead of old age before facing a tribunal.

Edit: fixed format.

Violation of Constitutional rights under the Color of Law.

[–] sportsjorts@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago

Fuck flock and all the other companies participating in the digital panopticon!!! Power to the people!!!!

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Schrag moved to send the resolution to committee and prevent public comment on the issue.

The move passed 5 - 3

Seemed a fair bit of dissent on committee over whether to have public comments, so arresting commenters seemed a little harsh... in retrospect even.

[–] solidus@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I dont get this. If you dont want public comment you can just vote to not have it? what kind of shit is that?
