Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I fully expect this to be overturned by the Supreme Court, with the ruling determining that HVAC was not specifically mentioned in the constitution.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

HVAC does not appear in the Bible either.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Neither do guns but Conservatives seem to think Jesus was armed

[–] Thalion@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Have you ever seen the abs on crucified Jesus? He definitely had guns

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Jesus doesn't skip abs day

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Do, uh ... do all Texas schools have air conditioning yet?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, schools are terrified of lawsuits.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

They’ll put a single unit in the wardens office.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago

Not so much to help the inmates but someone in power has a good buddy that sells air conditioners. /s

[–] weps@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

should order them to have electricity too

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

There goes the power grid again ...

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Bro what

There goes someone someone trying to be humane.* With human people. Which should have already been done.

[–] zergtoshi@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait until the next judge orders to have the prisons run the air conditioning at resonable temperatures by 2039...
I dearly hope my cynic comment ages like milk.

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sadly I don't see the incentive for a for-profit torture trap to spend potential profit on energy bills to avoid torturing people.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

They will if they stand to miss out on money if they fail to do it. That basic level of incentives is all that works at this point

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Agree 100%. I'm not ragging on the judge, it should have been in place, it's the lack of planning around the power grid. Maybe my comment was flippant, but you're not wrong.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 3 weeks ago

I thought you were meaning they'd kill the power to the prisons to keep the required HVAC from being able to run.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah my b, I prolly shoulda just asked for clarification

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, you're good, I was being flippant lol

[–] shutz@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

If this is enough to become a power grid problem, Texas needs to ask itself, "Why do we have so many people in prison?"

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Coupled with solar, in Texas when there is a need for airco…. Should be ok :)

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Isn't most of Texas in prison?

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Should be fine, most outages are during the winter.

Prices are a different thing though
