I somehow ended up on a Pokemon card collector Facebook group.

Scalpers are losing thier mind because the drop rates of rare cards are higher in the new sets and they made ALOT of sets.

So a lot of the scalpers are like β€œhow could they do this to us! This is my livelihood β€œ and all the people who enjoy the game are like β€œwell this is fucking amazing!”

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 24 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Be sure to rub it in with lemon juice

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Wasteing citrus juice? In this economy? I can’t afford that.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Piss is more economically sound

Price it at whatever you like, scalpers, I will not buy it

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

But the other thousand buyers will

[–] Minnels@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

I would say that those that buy is just as big of a problem as the scalpers. If people would just stop buying... Sad scalper.

Report them all and give them fake offers for the lulz. Even better, when they actually ship, find the people selling them on Facebook and make them drive an hour away while you sit in your room laughing.

[–] rounding_error@lemmy.today 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Offers count as purchases on eBay, though.

[–] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Huh. I may have to revise my strategy then lol

[–] dudeface@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I wish eBay and other popular marketplaces would just enforce msrp or lower for certain categories new

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

if they enforced MSRP, then how the hell would places like Nvidia get away with selling above MSRP...

MSRP is bullshit anyways

[–] dudeface@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I am only talking about person to person marketplaces

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They will just still then on other sites

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 3 points 3 weeks ago

At least they will not be on eBay

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Maximum 5% upsell with required receipt. Otherwise must be below MSRP.

Fun "I Have No Mouth..." story. Daughter wanted to see the Digital Circus movie in theaters, which would include us going with and taking her. So she wanted us to watch the series too, otherwise we'd be watching the movie without the context. And I agreed, ticket purchases and watching, contingent that she get the context that's based on by reading Harlan Ellison first. Can't say she enjoyed it as much as wacky lolsorandom show... but I tried.

Pro tip: if youre buying from a physical store, you can just take shit from their cart. They dont own it yet

[–] Stolas@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

You might have to fight them for it.

These people are crazy, I've seen videos where the poor sales clerks have to call the police on them multiple times because that's how aggressive they'll get.

I recently got lucky and managed to pick up a Cafelat Robot (really hard to get manual espresso maker). It completely sold out in minutes. I paid $495 CAD. I then saw a local listing a few days later, someone was selling one BNIB for $950. It sold in a couple hours. I was so mad when I saw it sold.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 13 points 3 weeks ago

I don't know who buys from scalpers anyway. Valve will make more.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 13 points 3 weeks ago

I hope I can ruin a scalpers life one day

[–] regdog@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

I am doing my part

I reported as many as I could under β€œsuspected as fraudulent.” Nowhere can I find an option that says β€œPresale” is not allowed. I’m not that surprised since this is eBay.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It's because presale isn't actually against their policy. What is against their policy is someone putting an inventory up that they haven't confirmed they are going to have.

So like if they have the email from Valve saying "this is the timeframe you get this" and that timeframe is ~~more~~ less than than 40 days out, as long as they can confirm shipment within 40 days of the item listing it's allowed.

I wonder if you get a new report option if the page has been active for more than 40 days, or if said issue requires a buyer to report them when they don't ship within 40

Being said, I think valve should crack down on the resale of their product on platforms like ebay, if they can find a listing that links to a steam account terminate future sales. With how overarching their system is they could likely cite Policy violation and close the entire account as well.

I assume it would be fairly easy to look for identical card numbers across the platform, or require the primary account on the device to be the account that purchased it for at least X amount of days having the system like how phone carriers do with carrier locking.

[–] blackberry28@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Wait I thought the Steam Frame is sold to random people who registered for the purchase? And only one per person? So how do Scalpers purchase them in bulk?

70 ALTERNATIVE ACCOUTNS

OR it's just everyone ordering even if they don't want it and selling it after

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

They don't... If they do, they had many multiple accounts with multiple addresses and payment methods, have actual play time on actual paid (not F2P) games and made a Steam purchase before 2026/04/26. They could be sitting on their accounts for a long while to be ready for this. Don't buy scalper stuff. Only purchase from Valve. Be patient. Used market an old headset if you're new to VR, they're cheap and work today.

I wanna buy a home server so i sometimes check eBay and FUCKK SCALPERS they buy every computer, remove RAM and SSD ans then sell it again without them at the same price so i cannot afford anything anymore because i have to buy overpriced RAM, overpriced SSDs and over priced computers πŸ₯Ή

[–] rounding_error@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah this makes my blood boil. It's been happening for yearrss, long before the AIpocalypse. So many used/decommissioned computers on eBay that don't even have RAM. As for storage, there is somewhat of a "data sanitization" angle there, but seeing as how people put used disks up anyways, there is kind of no excuse to not leave them in after sanitizing them.

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's infuriating building a home lab in 2026.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 8 points 3 weeks ago

Libs in my country often say - "Socialism heroically fights problems that don’t exist under any other system."

And I like to think about it each time there's a debate about shit like scalpers, billionaires, hedge funds, lobbying, etc.

Because under socialism, at least we were trying to overcome problems that weren't know to the capitalist societies. Under capitalism, we can only cope, because the system is designed around it's crippling problems and if they were eliminated, there would no longer be capitalism.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Joke aside. AM's hate speech is one of the hardest hate speeches I have ever seen.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Reminds me of that rant about the US south (or red states?). Haven’t seen that one in a while.

[–] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Do not look at the tcg scene

Riftbound t1 collectors set was set to drop for 350 usd, scalpers resold it for 6k

Pokemon is the worst tcg, no one plays the card game, it's literally cardboard collection simulator

Crazy how the way the heros in that story "win the day" is by killing themselves. One character gets thwarted and is forced to live forever lol.

Given that Steam Frame is ARM64, and runs a rooted version of Linux, I wonder how long until a homebrew version crops up. I hope people are playing with this idea.

[–] TheMightyCat@ani.social 10 points 3 weeks ago

Like you mean homebrew version as in hardware? that is already possible.

There is nothing stopping anyone from making an OpenXR compatible headset that runs linux, the steam frame is one example of this but its not like the steam frame invented this, its just really hard.
