Are social media account connected by email or only if employees connect them manually to other accounts? How do they know what you post?

I know reddit sells api access. Lemmy I'd think would be safer. I'm more wondering if anyone has heard of it actually being used.
API access doesn't mean access to a user's email address, it just means a much easier way to get to the same content as everyone else.
I doubt that today Reddit sells that information. I'm sure they will one day.
API doesn't give you a user's email though and it would be a huge scandal if Reddit was sharing that info. They probably mean Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. They might have facial recognition going on but it probably only applies to accounts with your name on it or linked to one that they know belongs to you (as in, if you put links to other platforms on your LinkedIn for example).

if your account is somehow referenced/connected the only way lemmy could be safer is that they dont have proper tools to automate looking for specifics.
But likely lemmy is unsafer because its an open standart and the frontends are more accessible than reddit
They know by guessing. False positives happen all the fucking time.
It should be a law that all background check results are forwarded to the prospective hiree.
I may just be too old or what, but here's how I do things:
- Don't post political opinion with my name on it, unless it's really certifiably not fringe (pro mental health, climate change is real, supporting LGBT rights ... is stuff I can live with).
- Separate mail with separate account and nicknames for different things.
- Apply for a job? Don't do it from iloveunicorns@xyz cause then I can just search where someone used that nickname ...
- If you're using GitHub and you use an alt there, make sure that's not using the same alt as your random rants on Reddit.
Basically separate business stuff from your fringe opinions.
Being pro-Palestine is certifiably not fringe, outside of the political and financial elite.
I still try to have somewhat anon accounts for anything interesting, but I'm sure that if you dig hard enough that you could connect them to me.
You're both right, it's not fringe. I don't think it's necessarily separated along money lines either.
I specifically pointed out I post mainstream stuff "I can live with" under my name. For you Palestine may be inside those lines, for me it would not.
This is because I personally would rather deal with an employer who is careful around the Israel/Palestine corner, but I would as an example absolutely not wish to work for someone who wants to take away queer people's rights. I openly advocate for this stuff at work and I intend to keep doing that throughout my career.
I even separate my non-fringe comments from my identifiable accounts because who knows who is going to take over the country next year. I've lived in a third world country long enough, and seen enough things there to be paranoid even after moving to a first world country. 🤷♂️
Anti-Israel, or anti-genocide? Because with the current global events and zionists going off on the slightest provocation this terminology is very suspicious
It should be a step back from that. Israel is committing genocide so you can't be anti-genocide and pro-israel.
But Israel is trying really hard to pretend like they represent all Jews and Judaism in general, so to conflate anti-isreali and anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism.
