Two days after being placed on a paid leave of absence, Matt Mullenweg says he has been reinstated as CEO of Automattic, according to a Slack message seen by TechCrunch. WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard confirmed Mullenweg’s return to the CEO role in a Friday post on X, which the official WordPress account shared and Mullenweg reposted.

Matt Mullenwag is a piece of shit extortionist that I hope dies in a comedic way.

Involving, say, hammers and cars?

can we add a rabid porcupine into this process somewhere

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

Add pies. It’s not an assault charge when a pie is thrown.

He was trying to force Wordpress hosts to pay his foundation money to use the WP name and whatnot

How has wordpress not been eclipsed by something else already. Most miserable piece of shit software.

Are you going to code a replacement?

That’s why. Everyone hates it, but not enough to hunker down and euthanize it.

Honestly coding a replacement wouldn't be difficult, there're already a few alternatives out there, it's the thousands of plugins you'd need to replace.

One of the issues with alternatives like ghost is not having a good plugin system.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The plugin system is what keeps popping vulns in Wordpress in the first place.

Also, this XKCD - standards

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 7 points 4 weeks ago

Oh I'm aware. In a way the plugin ecosystem is also one of the biggest issues with wordpress, it's full of freemium garbage that violates the spirit and in many cases the letter of the GPL.

But the point is that if you want a complete replacement for wordpress, it isn't just a blogging system you have to replicate. You also have to in some way replicate a forum, form builders, activitypub, an e-commerce system, calendar, booking system, SEO, page caching, ERP, CRM, etc.

I work with WordPress professionally and honestly I really do enjoy the platform, there's a lot of it that's very good. Having said that, none of my personal projects are on WordPress. Most of them are on Hugo and soon a lot of them will be on 11ty.

Wordpress has a lot of security issues due to its age and modularity. At some point devs needed to just say no, they never did, and now it’s everyone’s problem

[–] skribe@piefed.social 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not the devs but their clients that need to change. Plus many of the arguments against WordPress can also be made about Windows. Neither platform is going away any time soon.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 weeks ago

Windows is being ditched in entire countries right now.

I'm using PayloadCMS now. It's fauxpensource, but eh, so is WordPress in a lot of areas.

Its like its the middle of winter and the forecast says its going to be sunny an relatively warm on the weekend. Then you wake up Saturday and it's freezing rain and thunder.

[–] kazerniel@piefed.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

fuck I haven't heard of this, I wish he stayed off. I only think of him when I have to tick that childish pineapple checkbox on wordpress.org. I would be much more reassured if Wordpress was in a mature adult's hands.
