There was one mission in GTA 3 where you had to honk your horn outside of someone's apartment and I just had absolutely no idea that there were L3 or R3 buttons on a PS2 controller. Hardstuck for days.

Remember you had to ask a person when you were stuck in a game? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
When I was a teen, I had a friend call me on the phone one Friday evening to help him beat a Donkey Kong Country level because he knew I had the Nintendo Player’s Guide.
We spent 30 minutes troubleshooting that shit. One of my best experiences as a child.
There was a time where the only way to beat the Water Temple was to ask that one kid in school to come over to your house to do it for you.
I remember buying hint books or calling the developer's tip hotline directly.
I think I might actually still have a hint book buried somewhere for Hugo's house of horrors... I hadn't thought about it in probably decades but your comment just reminded me.
Lol I remember that frustration too, thanks for the flashback. You only had to click it for like a millisecond too it was the shortest honk and the game would progress hah.
That's so funny to me, because I can't imagine playing a GTA game without honking the horn to the beat of the music playing on the radio every time I'm in a car. It's part of the GTA experience for me. (Imagine my joy when I heard that "beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep" song for the first time in GTA V!)
Hell, that reminds me of when I first got a GameCube and was disappointed that the sticks didn't click in like they did on the PS1...

Wait what? I haven't played playstation for 20 years or so, but didn't it have only 2 buttons at the back labeled L1, L2, R1, R2?
Clicking the analog sticks inwards presses buttons which were labeled as L3 and R3 respectively, but not visibly.
It was/is a common trend to bind sprint in games to L3, which I hate to this day.
That's right. 3s aren't at the back though, they're on top. Looking right at you.
L3 is clicking the left analog stick into the stem like a button, and R3 is clicking the right stick.
Just like the clicking the mouse scroll wheel down which isa button but not many people use that.
There was a game gear game that had a cheat code which required you pressing 2 buttons simultaneously. 4th grade me didn't know what it meant so I just pressed both buttons is such rapid succession until I inadvertently pressed them at the same time and unlocked the cheat
Ah yes, Sly 2 demo on Ratchet and Clank 3.
Ape Escape on the PS1 taught me the L3 and R3.
