Good ideas in America mean ideas that make money. Environmental impact doesn't even play into what's considered a "good idea" here. The only thing that is important is making money. As long as you have an extra million to toss at the Administration should some state attempt to hold you accountable you're all good.

There are probably people going through THC vapes at the same rate as most people do nicotine ones, but they are definitely the outliers. That shit is potent.
i mean, i'd be fine if they made the all-in-one disposable vapes [the battery + the oil] illegal. but yeah, sometimes i have to rely on cartridges [no, edibles aren't an option] and those produce the least smell of the options available to me.

now you've got me wondering how many of those i'd need to wire up a new ebike battery.
I've got around 100+ cells so far, wanting to replace the lead acid batteries in an oldschool dell rackmount ups in my rack. Bit more involved than I'd hoped, but the batteries are so easy to obtain. The risk of burning the house down and killing my family currently outweighs the cool fufo factor, for now.
Biggest issue is the differing sizes and shapes depending on the device. Lots are approx 16500 but you get the odball square or some tiny thing that's half useless.
That would be a cool ass project ... Make sure you use a steel box for when it catches fire. I'd totally do it just for fun.

Nah, you just need one controller per type. There are probably some more common types you could focus on.
I miss the times when you could just scavenge 18650s out of anything from laptops to ebikes. I built a home battery system out of those.

Meanwhile if you're interested in harvesting batteries and other parts from these things, there are lots of DIY projects to try out.
I wish they had more smaller projects. A powerbank or Ebike battery is just a lot of fire risk for the average person to deal with, as cool as they are.
I bike when it's not stupid hot and I always bring a ziplock bag to toss old vapes I find.
At no particular time, I'll pull them apart and remove the battery in order to use with various small things. The plastic all goes into the garbage.
I find several on any given ride.

My spouse used to get them but I finally convinced them to start using refillable ones, so while every month there's still a little plastic being thrown away, at least it's not an entire chunk with a battery getting tossed every week.
I can't even remember the last time I rode a bike without seeing at least one.
Sadly most of them aren't usable as a battery pack, I really wish I could find the same brand and style consistently but even those sometimes have wildly different cells in them. I need ones that have relatively the same capacity, will hold a charge, and discharge around the same rate.
I think I'm gonna try and make a small rc plane out of one of those Styrofoam kits, I'm sure most of the cells I've scavenge would be enough for a couple minutes of flight. No chance of running a car, but I really want one of those foam jet gliders so I can mount a simple battery and switch, just make it fly in a straight line for a few hundred feet. It'd be neat.
I'm kind of running out of ideas for them since I'm getting so many. I've stopped soldering my jst connectors to them and most are just chilling in small baggies to keep them from shorting.

No, that's how they used to do it. The Hatfield Marine Science Center has a new blue whale skeleton.
The thing about a blue whale skeleton is that's not a thing you can just go out and get. You're obviously not going to go hunt one. There aren't blue whales in captivity. If you're a natural history museum and want an elephant skeleton, you can get one from a zoo after the elephant dies of natural causes. Not so much for blue whales. If you want a blue whale skeleton to display, you're just going to have to wait until a blue whale washes up dead on the beach.
I'm not sure if this is documented anywhere online. But if you go to the Hatfield Marine Science Center itself and browse through their exhibits, one documents the process they used to clean the skeleton.
They did it by first carving the whale carcass into big chunks. They then wrapped these in nets and hung them from buoys that suspended the chunks into the water column of Yaquina Bay. Little sea critters could swim through the net and pick away at the rotting whale flesh, while the net prevented bones from being carried away. They effectively did a controlled artificial shallow-water whale fall.
So nowadays, on the Oregon Coast, you eat a whale by letting it be devoured by the small fish and crustaceans of Yaquina Bay.

I don't understand what you're saying. How does moving from disposable to refillable and rechargeable not solve any problem? Do you mean completely? It will be a great improvement in any case.
Excludes cannabis. May as well be banning adult diapers when the problem is all disposable diapers.
