Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

surely "cisformer" is just another word for trans?

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Culture war is a conflict where the prize is nothing.

[–] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 hours ago

Depends on what fucking side you're on. If you're on the side defending your rights the prize is fucking everything.

"Female!" -Shockwave

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah let me check the "gender" this alien had at "birth".

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

The robot was assigned-protoform-at-construction.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 7 hours ago

Are they gonna americanize transformers like they did bluey? Cisformers?

[–] Wobble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago

If I were trans then I would call myself They. No excuse!

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 hours ago

Why hasn’t anyone put this guy down yet?

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 104 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

"Transformers is teaching children about acceptance."

MAGA: Burn it all down.

"The president is a literally criminally charged sexual predator with an undeniable and for some reason heavily secretive relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a child sex trafficker."

MAGA: shrugs

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Ian Miles Cheong is also just a grifter. He lives in Malaysia and isn’t even a US citizen.

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 20 hours ago

Acceptance leads to social equality and then where would the Epsteins be? Think of the billionaires!!

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s funny when this Chinese Malaysian Cheong guy is probably not called Ian Miles on his passport.

Like it’s very common for Chinese people to have an unofficial English name that they’ve chosen themselves.

Preferred nouns for me not for thee

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 hours ago

This Ian Miles Cheong is actually a well-known right wing influencer (or just a troll). I say disregard everything this person says like if Elon Musk said it himself.

Stop giving Nazis attention.

Boomers that are serious fans of the series know Transformers had the entire squad of queer and genders characters, all the way since first comic.
Literally Orion Pax & Megatron were they first gay couple. Until blatantly elections got in the way. Megatron is right, oppressors need to be challenged at every step.
3 questions to powerful institutions by Megatron — 2005 IDW continuity The Transformers 2011 Issue #23 Chaos Theory Part 2漫画Wiki

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Point taken; but on the other hand, we can't ignore them to death, can we? Like you said, oppressors need to be challenged at every step. I think there's a difference between clapping back at some chud's "gotcha" moment and allowing them into a space for debate.

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 13 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The video addresses this directly.
Challenging oppression means going out of our comfort, organizing, and directly acting. The Malaysian is already wanted in Malaysia, Malaysian have that challenged.

Now, when is the Twitter Takedown?
If we are to apply the thesis in Transformers & ThoughtSlime, X Corp Headquarters needs some renovations.

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I believe resistance occurs in many forms. And I'm all for a, let's say, radical renovation to the X HQ.

Anyway, I don't appreciate being ordered about. Only my spouse gets to do that, and only when I'm wearing the collar.

Did you mean to say Gen Xers?

[–] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 8 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Boomer just means old person now

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I reject this premise. I refuse to give in to the morons.

Does that mean I can call anyone under 30 an infant?

[–] Zagorath@quokk.au 3 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

I think a better analogy is how older people were blaming stuff done by teens on "millennials" well into the late 2010s and even early 2020s when even the youngest millennials were well into their 20s.

[–] AppleTea@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Boomer if you're born in the 20th century, millennial if you're born around the 21st century. That seems to be how these terms are evolving.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

confused late 80s birthday noises

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 7 hours ago

"Kids these days" has been a complaint from older generation for as long as there's been language.

[–] X@piefed.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Well it’s not as though there’s much that can really stop you, so yes.

Wait, what!? Megatron was gay? I mean, do robots (in disguise) even love?

Today I learned I guess.

[–] Gerblat@lemmy.world 15 points 17 hours ago

It’s actually not even “robots in disguise”, it’s “robots into guys”

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 4 points 18 hours ago

It was implied, as they were friends during the Cybertron war. After MoL fell to Orion, their friendship extremely soured.

do robots (in disguise) even love?

This isn't even a worthwhile question. They are more capable than love than meets the eye.

[–] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 18 hours ago

I'm not a deep fan of Transformers, but I heard of a time when a transformer carried a human fetus in their robo-womb, so anything is possible.

[–] Sicurio@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

In what continuity were Orion and Megatron any more than friends? In the '84 cartoon Orion has a girlfriend named Ariel who becomes Elita-1 at the same time Orion becomes Prime. He doesn't seem to have even met Megatron yet. And I'm not sure the original comics even cover Optimus before he was Prime.

[–] fadedmaster@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

This was how I remember it too, but it's been a while since I read the comics and watched the show. They used to basically be brothers. I don't remember any implication either. But given how many decades it's been, and my age at the time, I would have likely missed it. That being said, I looked through the TFWiki link the parent comment provided and didn't see anything about them being more than friends.

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 2 points 17 hours ago

There was a comic series were Orion was a pathological serial killer, and that is how Megatron befriend Pax, “enemy of my enemy.” Ariel dies in this one. I am not a fan of the series, so forgive me for not recalling the name of the retcon continuity.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 14 hours ago

damn the bible is pushing transgender propaganda

[–] Redditmodstouchgrass@lemmy.zip 26 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (15 children)

Hasn't seen this one yet. The bots seem a bit undertextured compared to the humans from the stills ive seen. Not a fan of that style.

Honestly it would make more sense if they all went by neutral pronouns. Kinda odd that a species with, as far as I've seen, a very skewed gender ratio would have any concept of male/female.

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 11 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (3 children)

This particular set of organics are not Transformers, they are instead Terrans. So it makes more sense to have more genders and pronouns than what Cybertron offered. But at the least this series was never shy to show genders do not equate sex.
Something a failed Malaysian runaway detests.

Idk the scene but it seems a bit silly.

We need to save the world but can't do that on an empty stomach. How about a picnic in the park?

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 4 points 16 hours ago

Enbyformers?
