I don't know if I'd go THAT far. Let's not kid ourselves, there's no "good guys" here. I think the only path to "better" is to try to take an honest look at the good, and the bad, in every nation, modern and ancient, and understand what they get wrong and why. And it will probably be a disaster too, but it'll be a new disaster we can learn from.

Went to the beach the other day. The paid parking lot had a sign saying that a day pass was required, and could be purchased online. The lot's wifi SSID and password were also printed (No cell service), so you could do it right there on your phone. But the URL to the payment page wasn't there. Only a QR code.
Is there something wrong with me if I want to be able to just type the address of the payment page into my phone, the same way I typed in the wifi password? Why is obfuscating or hiding important details like this becoming the norm?
There's something wrong if you need a computer at all.

The slow and then not so slow creep of needing a phone to do anything is a template that AI companies are using to force adoption of their AI product.

The hate for 2fa is so stupid. Hate the websites that need you to use their app to use their service, they didn't have to do that and it only helps them collect data on you, but 2fa is an additional layer of security.
I understand that 2fa is objectively important but I also kind of hate the idea that if I lose my phone I have fucked. Even if backup codes or a thing I'm still in a whole heap of trouble.
That's why I sync mine on Bitwarden, on a self-hosted instance of it, so even if I lose my phone I can still access my 2fa, though increased risks by putting all my eggs in one basket

I don't really see a problem with most of it, 2fa is obviously a good thing and necessary bc people just don't use strong enough passwords.
Being able to do government stuff at my own home is great too.
Most of these things are for convinience.
I see a problem if there is no alternative way to pay for things in cash.
Surveillance is a different beast alltogether but this comes down to legislation. Countries managed to cut down freedom without any mobile phones at all. This is what we need to focus on not on mildly annoying tech.
I mean, I'm totally fine with a physical device based authentication (but agree that a company should provide a phone or yubikey), bank same concept.

Whatever happened to using hardware based 2fa code thingies (I don't remember). Does nobody buy them anymore because they just want the convenience of using their phone?
I work in IT and I’ve only worked for one company that issued hard tokens. They took them away half way through my time there and switched to soft tokens because it was cheaper.
I have one, I had my emploeyr buy me it. Everybody should use computer keys and nobody else does.
Most people don’t even know they exist.
I mean if you use a privacy oriented OS, it is the best keychain you could have honestly.
