This might be the most upvoted post I've ever seen on Lemmy so far.
There was another one from back in the day when someone asked for advice on how to get along without taking a piss for 3 days straight. That got something like 1-2k upvotes if I remember correctly.

I don't know about posts, but for comments I used to hold the most upvoted comment of the accumulated vores on the fediverse, and probably also the most replies. All by accident of course, and yet nevertheless, I can tell you that there are not just dozens, but thousands of people viewing this shit. Posts must be worse.
It happens and decays quite fast, so your inbox will be red for a couple of days at most. Reddit was the same but for other reasons. People actually read this in comparison, whereas on Reddit the interest would die within hours, unless someone accidentally found your post three years later through googling.
Having recently released a free Android/iOS game I can tell you: 25k views on Reddit, 80 visits to my store page. 100 upvotes on Lemmy 600 views on the store.
Reddit is simply full with bots, upvotes mean nothing.

Yesterday was indie Sunday, again tons of views, but less interaction than Lemmy:

It's even worse: Popular subreddits like /r/games have a "at most 10% self promotion" rule, so 10% of your posts can be self-promotion. So I thought: Hey, my account is 14 years old or so, over 100k karma, I'll make a post about my game.
Got instantly taken down, they counted every single patch note post in my own subreddit to the rule. And then I noticed whenever I posted the direct iOS App Store link my post instantly got filtered, even in my own subreddit! The mods heavily pushed me towards buying Reddit ads.
There are dozens of upvotes. DOZENS!

I still don't know what PieFed is.
It's another Lemmy. There are several alternative Lemmy's actually: Mbin is another, forked originally off of Kbin, and there was another project Sublinks that was stalled but now is being worked on again. There's also nodeBB, and there was going to be flarum but now I guess that's on hold indefinitely...
The point is that if you are happy where you are at, then you don't even need to care: they all share stuff using the ActivityPub Protocol. Even Mastodon (X/hitter replacement) and Friendica (Facebook replacement), Loops (Tiktok replacement), Pixelfed (Instagram replacement), etc. can all share too - though PieFed and Lemmy (and Mbin and nodeBB) are more closely related, being more or less Reddit replacements, or compatible with that anyway.
PieFed does offer more features than Lemmy - like user polls, user & post flairs, multi-communities that are user-customizable and shareable, etc. But also, the main dev recently and controversially took away people's rights to upvote (hence my joke about fewer contributions from PieFed lately), imposing a confusing and non-transparent quota system for how many votes someone is allowed each day. Like most features it can be enabled or disabled by the instance's admin team, but it is making people wary of switching from Lemmy to PieFed when not just this but other features like it will come in the future - with barely any notice and against massive community push-back.
Then again, Lemmy's main devs are tankies, who promote people on their instance trolling users across the whole Threadiverse calling for the fall of the entire Western civilization and the death of most people therein. So it's not like one software platform is controversial while the other is not - they both are, just in different ways.
But at the end of the day, they all are helping, bc their freely offered FOSS is an enormous boon to us all, who hate Reddit (fuck spez). If you do want to check out PieFed, look at PieFed.zip that has that vote quota disabled and a very sensible admin team. Maybe even make an account, as that sign-up wizard is outstanding, and even use PieFed for a bit as its abilities to discover communities is so much better than Lemmy's - even if you only use that information to let you know which communities to subscribe to on your Lemmy.world main account, it's a nice experience. (And this way whenever your instance goes down due to some technical issue or upgrade, which is rare but does happen, then you'll have another option to jump to for awhile!:-).
PyLova exists to solve those philosophical issues with PieFed.
Absolutely, and that PieFed fork is coming along quite nicely with a bunch of small features that even PieFed lacks, quite exciting! (And the maintainers are currently looking for more to do, so let them know what you might want to see from it? e.g. I asked for it to show downvotes alongside upvotes and that's already implemented, it's so quick!!!! Changes in Lemmy take like 2 to >5 years, while PieFed & PyLova are both like days to months, its fantastic!!)
A couple things I will say in PieFed's defense is that a LOT of the criticism against it is outright misinformation, and actually it is mostly quite friendly in not only NOT hard-coding filters (as people have claimed but the evidence proved the opposite) but also outright making the provided filters as the most optional feature type imaginable - specifically opt-in.
The vote quota is a departure from that, being opt-out, and also in defiance of massive community push-back. It seems to be boosting the signal that the main dev has been sending for awhile now as in a shift away from Reddit-esque "social media" e.g. shitposting memes and more towards... I dunno, maybe Mastodon serious conversations? The important thing being that all instance admins would now need to be on their guard for "improvements" that are virtually unannounced and simply snuck into the code along with other things. Though all FOSS is that way, and Lemmy is no exception.
The Threadiverse is maturing now, with multiple software options and people holding one another to account. I'm so proud! 😁
Didn't sublinks stall because he had a baby? I remember reading something about it and the plan always being to come back to developing it. Edit: looks like it stalled for other reasons as well https://discuss.online/post/39386407
jgrims stepped back from daily admin duties of his instance (discuss.online) to more fully focus on developing the software. I imagine we won't hear as much about it now that PieFed (+ even its fork PyLova) are on the scene, being a fully featured, fully functional platform, which raises the bar to compare against.

If this were any other social software, I'd say "good timing". But since it's Lemmy, I'll say "Shift+F10".
You can't verify the amount of votes it had when I took the screenshot, for that you'll just have to take my word, but you can verify the dates, that I posted at 21:43 my time and the original post was posted 21:30 my time. 8 votes after 13 minutes is actually quite good on Lemmy. Pays off to browse by "Top Hour".
Hah yea I actually do believe it, just a head nod to the technical smarts of those here.

I remember when the most upvoted Reddit posts had about 1k upvotes, and it was the golden age of reddit.
This made me look at my account's top posts. Highest I ever gotten was 400 upvotes for a post on Android about Pocket now saying malware on android is not a thing 11 years ago.
Then around too 20-ish of posts on small niche subs and meme subs generally around 5 - 8 years ago.
I miss those times.
I should help here but alas I am not my past self. It took me a long tine lurking back then to start posting, and it will take me a long tine to start posting here as well.
In 10 years time there is a chance people will mythologise this as the good old days of Lemmy!
For sure it's great eight now I hope no bot's and AI shit takes over to create a corporation adds space like the rest of the web.
Quick only tell like 400,000 more people about the Fediverse and then shut the fuck up
