If the floor is wet like at the pool, it's sock shoe sock shoe.

Any other time it's sock sock shoe shoe, because I am not tracking the outside world into my house or bedroom, and the shoes are at the front door.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You wear socks to the pool?

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Oh, you don't use the dressing room?

Well you are right, at our local pool you leave shoes at the racks before walking barefoot down the hallway to the dressing rooms, but when leaving the pool I still go sock-shoe because that is a public outdoor shoe mat.

Similar principles to food-safe cross-contamination prevention.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ok seriously, what kind of psychopath puts on their socks right before putting on their shoes?

It goes, wake up, eat breakfast, shower, t-shirt socks pants, then you mill about losing precious time, THEN you panic and run into the hallway put on the shoes and go out the door.

What kind of barbarian dystopia are you people living in?!

[–] OozingPositron@feddit.cl 1 points 6 days ago

It's cold, I always get my socks on first thing, then pants and then slippers.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 3 points 6 days ago

I'm just barefoot most of the time

[–] Fedditor385@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

I have either a pair of socks or a pair of shoes in my hands. So doing anything else besides sock/sock shoe/shoe would require me to put things down only to pick em up again a second later which would be stupid.

Or I can go shoe/shoe and then sock/sock and watch the whole world burn.

[–] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't wear socks inside the house. Wear closed toe shoes outside mostly for work (boots), otherwise it's thongs or similar. I put my socks on in the mudroom along with my boots, so its sock/boot, sock/boot.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

I have gravel floors so socks and hard boots are a must.

[–] CathyBikesBook@piefed.zip 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Sock/sock then shoe/shor because i keep my shoes by the door

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Shoe shoe sock sock for me.

[–] AltheaHunter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Sock/shoe, sock/shoe usually. I never wear socks unless I am putting on shoes to leave the house, so i collect the socks and shoes I'm wearing and put them on all at once right before I leave. Sock/shoe, sock/shoe minimizes the possibility of my socks picking up stray hair/lint/etc and shoving it into my shoes.

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Didn't we have this question before? Iirc people threw when to don your pants into the mix and the thread went WILD.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

We don't talk about that incident.

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 3 points 6 days ago

Sandal/sock, sandal/sock.

[–] buttmasterflex@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

Sock sock while getting dressed, then moccasin moccasin for puttering around. Then it's shoe shoe with leaving home.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 2 points 6 days ago

Shoe, sock; shoe, sock, of course.

You all still do socks before shoes like little kids? Uh, ok. /s

Sock/Sock, then shoe/shoe

Feels more symmetrical. Plus, having one foot with a shoe with the other being barefooted feels awkward

[–] GreyShuck@feddit.uk 65 points 1 week ago

Sock, sock shoe, shoe.

Usually because I put my socks on in the bedroom, but my shoes are by the back door: i don't put them on unless I am going outside.

[–] AMoralNihilist@feddit.uk 56 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Shoes belong in the entryway. Socks in the bedroom. Socks will always be put on before shoes.

There are a couple of niche situations where one might put socks and shoes on at the same time/place, but the norm of socks first then travelling to the shoes dictates that socks first, shoes after.

The one exception is when for example, changing in a public space, or outside, where you don't want to get your sock dirty, so you put sock then shoe and then sock then shoe

Shoe/shoe then sock/sock so your shoes don't get dirty

Sock/sock and then shoe/shoe, BECAUSE the shoes may not be in the same room as the socks.

How do you like them apples?

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Anyone wearing one sock and shoe with one fully naked foot is either deeply deranged or some kind of alien pod person. It is a pale approximation of human behavior. Unless you are stumbling away from a grenade attack or something, there is no reason to ever exist like that, even momentarily.

[–] littlewonder@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Don't underestimate people. My partner will walk around in a shirt with nothing on the bottom like fucking Winnie the Pooh.

Wearing shoes around the house is filthy.

Sock/sock, then shoe/shoe, because the shoes are in a different room. Walking around in shoes indoors is a big nono.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Left sock right sock left shoe right shoe

I dont want a shoe and sock on one foot and nothing on the other, how does that not drive you nuts

Socks first, then shoes. Mainly because I put my shoes on at the door and my sox on in the bedroom when I wake up.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Sock, sock, show, shoe.

Sometimes you grab two socks and then one of the socks is wrong. I'm not walking around in one shoe to fix my sock problem.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

sock/sock shoe/shoe because I put in my socks in the bedroom but don't put in my shoes until I get to the closet by the front door.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Obviously sock sock, shoe shoe.

Because you grab your pair of socks from the drawer, unroll them, put one on, then you're still holding a second sock... It would be madness to just put down the sock you're already holding.

Finally, shoes, you left them... in some room in the house. Go find them.

Sock shoe, sock shoe, because I have a golden retriever and don't want her fur on my socks.

My shoes stay at the door and never used in the house.

So sock sock first then shoe shoe.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Maybe it's cultural but I don't understand why would anyone wear shoes at home.

Socks, then shoes. My socks are stored in my bedroom, and my shoes near the entryway of my home. I'm not one of those filthy casuals who wears their shoes inside.

[–] anothermember@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

I'm rarely in the position where I put my shoes on at the same time as my socks. Socks go on when I get dressed, shoes go on when I go out, unless maybe I'm camping in a small tent getting dressed rarely coincides with when I go out. I assume this is the case for most people.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Sock/sock, then shoe/shoe. Because I'm not a psychopath...

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago

Those two activities are unrelated to me. sock/sock after the shower, shoe/shoe before leaving the dwelling.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Shoe/shoe.

Take it sleazy.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sock Sock Shoe Shoe.

because I'm not a fucking lunatic sociopath.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

Came here to make the exact same comment. Now I just have to upvote it.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Normal shoes I'll do sock/sock shoe/shoe. For lace up calf length boots I'll do sock/boot sock/boot because it's a whole process and if I don't adjust the sock just right it gets super bunched or overly tight on the toesies.

So, really, it depends on the context.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

sock shoe, because that foot is already up in the "operating theatre" so to speak

then the other sock and shoe

one foot at a time

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

After reading the other replies I feel the need to elaborate: I don't wear socks without shoes. Ever. The point of a sock is to protect the shoe from the foot.

Sock/sock, then shoe/shoe. If you had to RUN FOR YOUR LIFE in the middle of putting on shoes, would you rather have one shoe on or two socks on?

load more comments (1 replies)

This was on an episode of Archie Bunker.

Socks first. Some days I don't go outside at all but am wearing socks around the house.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

That depends on if you are a psychopath or not
