1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.
There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.
6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.
7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

When I was working television I would take the steerable satellite antenna's and go from satellite to satellite looking for video to watch. In the 90s most of the syndicated TV shows were un-encrypted. We started keeping a log of what we found at what time/bird and it kept us entertained between feeds.
90% was junk food TV like Maury/Springer but there were some gems like MASH/Cheers/Etc
Digital broadcast TV is pretty awesome - a given channel actually has more bandwidth than a cable channel, so you can do full 4K over the air.
cable is nuts nowadays. Its been some years but I worked at a place that had I think basic in the break room. all reality tv and the commercial breaks were longer than snippets of the shows. It was crazy. There are over the air digital channels showing reality tv and the ads are no more than the other channels which are definately less than half the show time and im pretty sure a fair bit less. 100% every cable channel I saw at that workplace had more commecial than show.

Interestingly enough, the Thin Man story in books is about a jewel thief that ends up in prison for years after he is caught. And then dies shortly after his release as a broken and penniless man. But that wouldn't sell as a movie at all I guess.
During the World Cup, I got frustrated with switching between BBC iPlayer and ITV's app. I usually use IPTV, and it's great, but for some of the matches, it was kinda flaky.
Anyway, we used to have Sky years ago, and I ditched that for various subscriptions and IPTV, but never bothered getting Freeview as we had a shoddy old aerial and poor signal.
However, after speaking to a guy at work, I picked up a new USB-powered aerial on Amazon for £29 and gave Freeview a try. I ended up watching all the games in HD, with no buffering and without the 30-second delay all the streaming services had. I was delighted!

I use a hdhomerun tuner with an antenna and every time I run a scan for new channels it turns up something new...normally something I don't care about but I will keep trying.
How are you liking it? I get a handful of channels off a set of cheap hoop/rabbit ears hooked direct to the TV, but I've been thinking about sticking a decent antenna up in the attic and an hdhomerun on a shelf in my rack (then add it to Jellyfin). I'm also a little concerned about investing that money and effort just to have the stations around here switch to DRM shortly after. I'm in the states and, as I understand, they haven't been able to get approval for DRM decoding on their devices. Meanwhile there's some chance of DRM becoming standard/mandatory(?) for OTA TV within the next year or so.
I've been happy with it. I hired an antenna installer to put mine in and get perfect reception of the major networks. I use PleX and enjoy DVRing local news and certain series. I'm not worried about DRM of ATSC3 because it would fail miserably and therefore the market will fix it.
Same setup, with the Extend model so I can record one show while I watch another (or record both). It's been like 8 years and the thing still gets a couple of firmware updates a year. Solid investment.
