My old friendships are maintained through annual city breaks where me and my rag-tag group of middle-aged food, beer and cocaine enthusiasts congregate for a weekend of laughing and talking shit. Usually followed by a week of abject depression and a few months of financial ruin. I love it.

Nope, meant to but life got in the way. I do live in the far north of Scotland, so our summers are not particularly warm, like at all. But yeah, wasn't wise.

Kudos. There's a small local garage on my street, and the guy put my two on for £20, which was pretty good. We have an EV, so I just bought two for the front.

This was in December last year, and I didn't swap them back. Hopefully, they're still good for this winter.

That's interesting - I wasn't aware of how fundamentally we've moved on in the last 10 years. Presumably you went to uni, so that's 4 years, so you'll have the theory I guess? I did my Degree in 'computing' in 2003. Did some Java and Web design using Dreamweaver and a whole module on Lotus Notes. Yeah, not super useful!

Yikes. I've moved from IT tech support to MGMT. I don't really write with a pen, and largely rely on emails/teams. I think if we went back any further than the late 80s I'd be totally screwed.

I do no such thing. I have nothing against trans people whatsoever. Where are you getting that from?

[–] YeahIgotskills2@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Fair enough, perhaps I overreacted. I'm not particularly concerned that mentioning the gender or number of sprogs I have as part of a broader conversation poses a risk as such, but I take your point.

Or not done at all because they're silly.

Interesting, yet wildly off the mark take. I'm Scottish and have been a socialist my whole life, but I've mostly zero interest in tedious labeling. People like you with their skewed outrage and impossibly narrow definitions of how we should live are as complicit as the MAGA nut jobs in the decline of political conversation.

Hardly. And why not? Why do you seek to repress what I chose to mention online? Like it or otherwise, the vast majority majority of folk don't have to go far to 'discover' their gender.

I have no interest in the relentless naval gazing regarding gender that disproportionately dominates online conversations, likely perpetuated by bad actors trying to push a niche issue into the mainstream to further splinter the left, but to my mind pushing a collective that removes gender from people until they decide at some arbitrary age what they want to be is not the change most people want.

I would. My boys are my boys and a collective decreeing I should wait until they decide they're boys is fucking mental, and illustrates the kind of warped thinking that goes a long way to explaining how 'the left' has handed power to that psycho in the White House on a plate.
