This happened to me recently as well, but I'm using this opportunity to finally get rid of my reddit addiction.

I don't want to create an account. I don't want to use new reddit. It gives way too many location dependent results, and the UI has me scrolling way too much to find the same amount of content as old reddit.

Something fun I found out recently though, is that apparently their new UI is so shitty you can be on a blocked page (due to potential NSFW content) and just remove two overlays and the CSS class that prevents scrolling the main body and... just have at it. Look at all the naughty things you like! This is the kind of thing that could be automated really easily with a browser extension. Protect the kids, except when it takes effort to actually write a proper backend, amirite?

i made an acct after a 1+year for a niche content. after i saw the popup, and looked a few posts, where everyone is saying the same thing currently.

They are very cunning. They do it in waves. Unlike yootoob, which makes it atrocious design experiments unexpectedly and forces it on everyone at once, and sometimes they go back (maybe too many problem reports, and such). Reeddoot, instead just does it in waves: first small portion of users, then they wait, until initial screams are dismissed as 'a few users got affected, must be a random glitch/bug'. After it is calm again, then the next part of users is affected. same thing happens. And they use this tactic until majority are affected, and last resisters are already seen as 'technophobes', 'special snowflakes', 'grampas', 'exotic OS users', etc They boil users slowly. Mark my words - reeddoot will come to phone numbers being obligatory, then IDs being obligatory, then giving away your info to Law authorities, then to secret services, finally might end up with just selling it to any criminal clan.

This was inevitable when they killed the apps API. That's why I stopped using reddit after that.

they are likely desperate for more AI scraping by google or others using the site, im guessing they are running out of actual content, and encounter AI-generated stuff instead, not very useful if you are using ai slop to train your own ai slop generator. beause they eliminated so many users last year, it definitely has affected traffic to the site.

mostly propaganda bots, other bots, spammers are running unabated on the site. reddit claims they are stopping scraping, but bots/spammers can easily fire up hundreds of accounts/or buy them easily.

i predict it will become like facebook. it works for tiktok and instagram because the "content is addicting enough" for users to consume.

I haven't had a reddit account in years but obviously reddit comes up as a relevant search result often. I use the URL Replace extension in Firefox to rewrite any www urls to old. This is still working for me this morning (without login). Maybe they're rolling it out slowly?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

they are, its already nagging on mobile, currently here you can eliminate it by backspacing to previous reddit page, or enter into a sub from google search. it doesnt seem to nag you if you are in a single post right now. there doesnt seem to be a mobile ublock workout easily as a desktop ublock workaround.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 days ago

Seems to be depending on geographic location.

[–] Sequence5666@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I am in India and honestly the Indian feed is just horrible filled with fandom wars, iam13andthisisdeep, offensive questions and opinions about sexuality/dating, rehashed relationship questions, toxic celebrity news and the nail in the coffin is political agendas directing narratives.

As much as i love the art, the culture and the developments of my country, the reddit community of india is just immoral, no manners reactive posts.

No body wants to have a discussion, they want to post their thought as a text post and skip the conversation.

Reddit community leaders, at least the good ones, are sorely missed. Good riddance to this app. It will die just as facebook.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

interesting, im see alot of india based subs in the front page. i never visit those though.

[–] Sequence5666@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Yes! And the ones we see are more problematic ones. And consider how many subs you have to mute to not see it again on your feed.

Reddits push to get Indians onboard, is going to make it chaotic on the feed, and quality of discussions are falling. I do believe it’s important for the niche communities, but overall disrespectful and disruptive behaviour will lead to people shunning these communities.

I always think its odd when people ask a global news site for advice that is bound to be highly socially specific and seemingly don´t care to state where they are from or ask others where they are from.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Use redlib.catsarch.com, You can replace the url like with xcancel.

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago

great, thanks! this is the only way to see r/all without the awful location dependant algorithm doing its shitty thing

[–] Sequence5666@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

this is great! Do they not use reddit api?

This, I think there's a way to load your subs too. Don't give these fuckers money.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They really want to turn it off don't they? I don't know why they just don't instead of going through this first.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago

they are desperate to allow more AI data scraping from reddit, im guessing they ran out of content, and google is probably pressuring them to produce more content.

[–] Boozilla@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Shitty site owned by greedy assholes, administered by douchebags, moderated by capricious basement dwellers, and overrun with bots and mouth breathers.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

1 greedy asshole, who worships musk.

[–] hirihit640@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It still works using Tor Browser with Javascript disabled, which is the most private way to browse it anyways.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Probably currently still depends on where your exit node is located (which e.g. with a very high probability is not Germany due to legal reasons, which seems to be one of the first places to be affected).

[–] hirihit640@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

True, though I can't remember the last time I ran into an issue. It's just one click to change your exit anyhow.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Won't work anymore the moment all locations are affected.
But maybe it is just a thing to meet local regulations and won't be deployed worldwide (but honestly I don't believe that...).

Tor worked for me a minute ago. Keep switching exits.

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

Let it burn! 🔥🔥🔥

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

the +Sub in url still work:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals+BlackPeopleTwitter+DIY+Documentaries+EarthPorn+Futurology+GetMotivated+askscience+aww+bestof+dankmemes+dataisbeautiful+europe+explainlikeimfive+facepalm+funny+gaming+gifs+history/rising/

The limit seems to be at 20 subs added, or dependant of the size of sub (the list above are some of the most followed sub); you can have more if they are less followed it seems like this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterTheCredits+AndroidGaming+Anthropology+Anticonsumption+ArtFundamentals+Berserk+BigBrother+Blogging+BollywoodRealism+Design+FanTheories+FlashGames+Foodforthought+Games+HailCorporate+IWantToLearn+IndieGame+IndieGaming+JudgeJudy+KeepWriting+LifeProTips+MetaWebGames+MuseumOfReddit+OPDelivers+Piracy+PropagandaPosters+SRSBusiness+ShittyFanTheories+Simulate+Stingray+TrueFilm+TrueReddit+WebGames+WorkOnline+YouShouldPlay+antigoogle+askscience+browsermmo+cerebral+claymore+controllablewebcams+dating_advice+debunked+europe+exjew+femalefashionadvice+freebies+freegames+freelanceWriters+gameai+gamedev+getdisciplined+idlechampions+innergame+learndesign+lifehacks+longtext+loseit+ludology+malefashionadvice+nathanforyou+onlinegames+opensourcegames+patientgamers+playmygame+plotholes+postnationalist+privacy+proceduralgeneration+programming+relationships+roguelikedev+roguelikes+rpgWebGame+rpg_gamers+rupaulsdragrace+scifiwriting+selfpublish+simpleliving+skeptic+socialskills+survivor+tbs+thatsneat+tipofmytongue+truePrettyGUglyFace+truegaming+undelete+videogaming4free+wesnoth+windows8+write+writing+wrpg+wtfstockphotos/

[–] zout@fedia.io 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

In addition to this, since yesterday old.reddit needs a log in, since this evening the standard reddit also nags (via pop up) for an account when I open a thread via google.

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

I use redlib.catsarch.com

There are multiple instances to choose from for redlib. There's a way to load your subscriptions but I can't be arsed. I just scroll through the top of it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

i saw someone use continium app for mobile, only nitpick is it doesnt collapse the post neatly enough like fully compact.

[–] Edgarallenpwn@midwest.social 1 points 3 days ago

Catsarch is the best redlib instance I've come across. Don't forget about LibRedirect

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

they seem to roll out in different regions slowly, more than likely gauging users backlash, and the attempt to hide the popup. Also google seem to have required phone verfication for accounts, and limit the accounts per phone. likely trying with reddit to force the use of more phones?

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Not a reddit user, can someone explain old reddit? I thought it was just the same content with an older style

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think old Reddit was the older style, but also less scripts/tracking running on the pages.

idk if a script blocker would work on the nag. On my desktop I was trying to view something and used ublock origin element picker to block the nag and allow me to view the site, but I can't seem to get it to work properly on mobile (even on desktop mode) it seems to be disabling ublock from working.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

i tried to block it on mobile, but reddit seems to be able to use other forms to block you. like hiding the comments behind a login wall. how long will the apps that reads reddit will be affected?

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No idea, but I'm guessing a script blocker will update or release an option to block them when it's obvious to then what way it's being blocked. An app could just easily implement it I guess, if they wanted. Login wall could be unblocked by unlock initially, but it seems to be more difficult on mobile.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

yea i tried the element picker/zap on ublock, reddit just hides the comments. i had to use old reddit redirect extension so i wouldnt get the annoying popups, but its matter of time before old reddit goes.

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago

I have managed to block them on desktop Librewolf/Firefox using element blocker. So I think (hope) I can export my custom blocks and import them to Fennec/Firefox on phone.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

old reddit currently seems unaffected by the nagging, im guessing reddit/spez doesnt want to scare away the people using it yet.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 days ago

That, and it was also the interface not effected by the regular nag screens reddit put up on mobile browsers to get you to use their app, so to sum up a general enshitification workaround.

[–] zout@fedia.io 6 points 4 days ago

Same here (Netherlands) since yesterday.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Yup i nuked my reddit account just before

[–] likebudda@reddthat.com 3 points 4 days ago

I can access the old look if I search by domain (i.e. reddit.com/domain/youtu.be) but subreddits and r/popular are all in the new style.

[–] misk@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

It’s available for logged in users only since like a month ago or so. During one of the Mod Councils Spez promised they’d never get rid of it as long as someone’s using it, so they’ll just increase friction to access it more and more.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Has been working for me until yesterday without logging in.
And there is a North American in another comment who apparently still can access it without logging in.
So seems like they are rolling it out in steps.
