Or, you know, just don't use a service that allows AI slop in the first place.

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago (3 children)

People won't sacrifice anything for their principles anymore... "It's too inconvenient!"

[–] raglan@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Was so easy to swap over to tidal. (not perfect, I know).

I've even gotten a family plan and offered family what amounts to free service.

I've sent tutorials on converting their libraries using a super easy service that's still less $ than just continuing to pay for spotify.

They are still on spotify because it's easier than giving a shit.

I made that mistake with Spotify, got a family plan years ago and hooked my sister + nephew + niece up. Now if I want to cancel it and they lose their playlists, they'll be all pissy.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Qobuz will transfer all of their playlists for free in just 2 clicks, it's part of their onboarding. And their music will suddenly be higher quality to boot, and the artists actually get paid for streams. Just letting you know your options.

I've tried to get so many people to switch to Qobuz. "but my super obscure metal band that nobody's heard of isn't on there." 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Fuck Spotify.

[–] exu@feditown.com 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Good chances their super obscure metal band is on Bandcamp

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

But all the japanese kpop and jrock is not. And local bands from countries other than mainstream ones.

They won't lose their playlists. When you cancel premium it just switches to the free plan. They'll have ads and won't always be able to play the exact song they want, but otherwise everything else will remain exactly the same.

There is https://soundiiz.com/ which works really well even with their free tier. I think I have transferred all my playlists from Spotify > Apple Music > Qobuz > Youtube Music` by now :) Unfortunately it does not help with convincing family members :(

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This just shows me a page with a lot of text explaining stuff.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

wtf.. im so stupid. sorry. apparently I just wrote down the url from memory and did not check it. its fixed now. thanks for the heads up.

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

If you cancel the paying plan people can still login and use in a free/ad supported version or not? So nothing lost.

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Now if I want to cancel it and they lose their playlists, they’ll be all pissy.

I did a quick search with duckduckgo and found this: https://exportify.net/

Yeah the upside to my kid being able to explore music and have that whole world opened for him outweighs moving to a different, but still shitty in various ways, music streaming service.

[–] gjoel@programming.dev 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Tidal had the same issue until a few weeks ago. Now they also put an AI badge on AI music and give you the option to never hear it.

[–] raglan@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

IIRC they also aren't paying AI "artists" so that should take away some of the incentive to even try. In theory anyway.

[–] gjoel@programming.dev 1 points 4 days ago

It gives them a huge incentive to push AI artists though. Royalty free streaming.

It's incredible how folks have gotten addicted to small convenience. They get visibly angry if they have to create, explore, or experience anything that an app claims to do for them, even for a fee.

I'm just doing this by going to ARRR my music and install Smolsonic.

[–] sanpo@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The problem is that it's really hard to leave.

Building your own library from scratch is a lot of work after getting used to streaming.

And Spotify alternatives are either worse or unavailable in my region.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

You could use Revanced. There's a version for Spotify or YouTube music.

[–] Jinx@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you care about music/musicians you wouldn’t supportt a platform that’s constantly scamming musicians.

Just search “artists suing Spotify”

[–] mczolly@piefed.social 3 points 5 days ago

Agreed. Big enough musicians should also start boycotting Spotify though, and tell their fans to listen on xyz instrad. That would have even more of an impact

[–] biginjapan@lemmy.nz 4 points 4 days ago

Could they at least then add a bloody toggle so that I can stop seeing this shit

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

They made their own AI music to steal even more revenue from artists to themselves. Fuck Spotify.

[–] tinsuke@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

And don't stop there!

Add badges to songs (or options to not play them at all) if genAI was used during its creation.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

Thank goodness that the stupid masses will now stick to boardroom slop summer hits pop playlists, which also don't pay the musicians jack shit, and reward people who don't give a fuck about the art form.
