I wish the yachts themselves were exploding.

Don't let our dreams be dreams

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 31 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It’s not “somehow” - the real economy is tanking precisely because the oligarchs have got so efficient at skimming the top off.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 12 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Skimming the top, yeah, but the "top" is 99.99%.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

They'd probably quote that and portray it as you saying 99.99% of people are in the "top" now.

The suffering of millions is directly proportional to the wealth of the ultrawealthy. These things are not tangentially related. They are direct consequences of one another.

[–] Jimbel@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yep. People can only be wealthy if the wealth is not distributed evenly.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They can only win if we lose.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 minutes ago

That is not true. That is the Zero Sum Game Theory they're playing where one party takes all. What we need is to think more along the lines of Positive Sum, where all parties can ein.

I am tired of pretending I don't want to behead all billionaires.

[–] _wizard@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Then stop. There's plenty of us that feel the same. Our community needs more people.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago

That reminds me, I have to sharpen my guillotine.

These things are terrible for the environment.

‘Megayachts’ are environmentally indefensible. The world must ban them: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/11/megayachts-environment-carbon-emissions-ban

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We don’t need to ban them. They just need to be made to sink through a series of unfortunate events that are nobody’s fault at all.

And if the owners are aboard and are unable to escape the sinking, I’m sure that would be a tragedy, and absolutely nobody would be dancing in the streets over such an event.

[–] pulsey@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

Release the Orcas!

[–] YeahIgotskills2@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How odd. Its almost as if the insanely wealthy are getting richer at the expense of everyone else. Not to worry, they earned and deserve it through knuckling down. It'll trickle down anyway. It's not their fault. If anything it's the brown people risking their lives on unseaworthy craft that are to blame for everything being so expensive.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Let's Tricke It Down by just taking it back.

[–] late_list@piefed.zip 116 points 1 day ago (2 children)

"Somehow" as if it's some great mystery and not because the 1% are siphoning off a bigger and bigger portion of the world's wealth. All to use for their own amusement while recklessly destroying the planet and sabotaging any attempts to do anything about it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

thier buying yachts like they are art pieces, its likely also laundering scheme.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

I’m pretty sure all tagged are $300 million dollars, so that they can be traded at any time for that amount. They are just floating $300m bills.

[–] PointlessLifePersonified@slrpnk.net 31 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Don't forget using them to hide somewhere out of reach when the peasants finally revolt.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

They’ll run out of food and fresh water at some point. And have to come close enough for a drone firebombing or 2.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

If this happens, they better be damn sure the workers on the yacht have been paid and treated incredibly generously. It's not like these yachts are actually operated by the owners, and the crew are part of the working class.

[–] forgetfulmeat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

That's why they want AI Robots

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Can't stay at sea forever, unfortunately for them.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago

That's the real agenda.

Seems as good a place to start as any.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

At first I saw that among his fleet of 6 ships, that he has a research vessel and a hospital vessel. I thought, "Ok, funding research and a fucking full on floating hospital that he can send to disasters and places in need. That would actually be pretty fucking cool."

But, then I kept reading "a full-fledged hospital, serving as a safeguard for the cruising billionaire during the COVID-19 pandemic". 🤦

It's a "support" vessel that follows his main yacht around in case he needs medical care.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 11 hours ago

his personal private hospital.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

He's create a fleet that he, his family, and his friends can escape to when the revolution comes, and Sociopathic Oligarch families start losing their heads.

He's not the only one. When this is over, we will task a military outfit to hunt down superyachts, arrest the occupants, confiscate the yachts, or destroy them if they resist. With satellites, they shouldn't be too hard to find.

I know Lemmy loves him, but if he's got fleet of superyachts, he's part of the problem.

[–] Krelis_@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It should be pointed out he actually now owns Oceanco, the megayacht building company mentioned throughout that article

Tax their fucking wealth. We should be voting en masse for wealth taxes. They are just social parasites that extract wealth from the rest of the population while killing it. !twnw@fedia.io

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ukraine has gotten pretty good at flying drones. Anyway, what's this post about?

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 18 hours ago

Unfortunately the weapons they develop there will be used against us here.

People selling all of their stuff to go live permanently on the ocean?

I know of at least one person with that plan

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 2 points 18 hours ago

I wouldn’t mind it. Fish everyday, enjoy beautiful scenery, peace and quiet.

[–] StealthLizardDrop@piefed.social 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Manufactured economic crisises are designed for the rich to get richer. its not a side effect, its by design

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Missed the word “sales” the first time and thought “hell yeah”, then re-read it and was just disappointed.

Paywalled article. Though I suppose that's an apt meta-Boring Dystopia detail.
