Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
Food "benefit". 🤡
Americans are such clowns in their rhetoric. Everything gets twisted.
Food is not a "benefit".
"Benefit" is one of the less inflammatory descriptions. Republicans typically demonize these programs by referring to them as 'entitlements'.
Free food from the government is absolutely a benefit. In fact many workplaces offer free meals as a benefit.

Does the US uphold human rights? No. That's the main issue here.

A more proper non propagandist name would be basic food aid.
The reasons people need food aid are typically things like not being able to get a job or being sick. Needing food aid is not a "privilege" or "benefit", it's a sickness of a malfunctioning society.
To call it a "benefit" is propaganda to make it seem like an evil system that cater to the rich is benevolent.
Free government provided food is a benefit. This is not even remotely debatable. It’s a benefit provided to low income earners. The middle class don’t get it. The upper class don’t get it. That would make it a benefit.
I think you’re getting stuck on the word “benefit”, hence your use of the word “privilege”. Government Benefits are not privileges. The word benefit has multiple meanings, one of which is an advantage or profit - but the other is a payment or gift made by an employer/state/etc.
Being born into a wealthy family comes with lots of benefits.
Being poor qualifies you for some government benefits.
The word benefit in those 2 sentences does not mean the same thing.
I don’t get any government benefits because I earn too much money. Free food would be a benefit.
I think they call this the "Just-world fallacy". The theory being that the poor are poor for a reason, usually their own incompetence or stupidity. And anyone who does possess resources has them because they worked hard and are smart and awesome.
This powers an empathy gap, where the more resources you accrue, the less you feel related to the people around you.
I dont know if its capitalism or basic human nature, but it sure is sad and unjust.

SNAP is a subsidy to the poor and to farmers.
Insofar as it benefits farmers, it's obviously a rural benefit, and it's also advantageous to rural areas on the poor front.

food chain keeping some poor neighborhoods from being food deserts are closing down in my city. operator said when the snap cuts hit so did their monthly (no duh) and they can't cover monthly costs.
