Wait. So is it a flex to wear shorts at 10? Is a jacket at 30? I'm so confused. That's like the mildest of temps. How about when we do yard work when it's 37.5c? Or go kayaking in 7c because like all those things happened are normal here. I was building a fire pit area today and it was 100° and earlier in the year I was on the lake kayaking when it was 45°.

Of course I do, it stands for Percentage of Commie.

These poor folks don't even know in a free country you can wear jackets and shorts any time you like.

I don't really get the hate for fahrenheit. It's a nice 0 to 100 scale for everyday weather temperatures. But also every 10 degrees is different enough that you don't even need to be precise when talking about it: "We'll probably need the AC today, it's going to be in the 80s".

I'm an American that's all for converting to metric but I would still use fahrenheit for weather since it's just so easy and convenient.

Come to New Zealand, we wear shorts (or stubbies as they are known over here) all year round!

[–] MrRandom@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

its cold in New Zeeland?

I love the Kiwi lingo.

Yeah but, 10c is 50f, which is not cold for shorts. Maybe cool at best? I wear shorts year round though 😬.

That entirely depends on where you live and what temperatures you're used too. I live in a hot part of Australia and absolutely wouldn't wear shorts in 10c because my body is acclimated to hotter weather.

[–] renrenPDX@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

Very true. Especially if it’s breezy.

Are you a 'shorts every day' guy?

[–] renrenPDX@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

Are you spying on me bro?

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Not them...

But, I do and yes I shovel snow in shorts. As long as my feet and hands are warm, I'm ready to roll.

You dropped de minus on 10C.

I've seen some wearing wintercoats

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

An Australian family moved to my town on some kind of exchange and yah, the one kid was still wearing a jacket at 30. Literally never wasn't cold.

Taught us how to play cricket, he was a cool kid.

as someone who has visited one of the hottest countries on Earth, yeah... 30C in countries like that, is considered chilly. There were a couple of days in a row where the temp reached 50 and kept crawling. My Scandinavian ass was not ready.

"When will I ever use this in real life?!?" I wonder how successful "to understand the international memes" would be in the classroom 🤔

10° is a completely normal temperature to wear shorts at

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Guess I'm a Canadian adult in the USA.

[–] lastlybutfirstly@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

I understand because of a useful mnemonic I learned a few years ago. 30 is hot. 20 is nice. 10 is cold. 0 is ice. 30 is still pretty nice for most US citizens since we're not Canadian.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 12 points 17 hours ago

That's not even flexing with the shorts. It's -15°C that's the flex

Heatwaves in London are strange. You see a few people outside in light sweaters. It's like they don't know what to do. It's like they don't own t-shirts
