Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. ๐Ÿงฌ Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. ๐Ÿ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      โœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      โŒ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. ๐Ÿ“ฌ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 ๐Ÿ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 ๐Ÿ–) will be removed.
  7. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sรญ, por favor [Spanish/Espaรฑol]
  8. ๐Ÿฟ Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

What's worse is not knowing if it's going to be (E)ngland, (G)reat Britain or the (U)nited Kingdom. I always scroll to the wrong point on the list first

[โ€“] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 40 points 1 year ago

And then, surprise! Itโ€™s a UK company so they artificially put it at the TOP of the alphabetical list, but you didnโ€™t notice it before you scrolled everywhere else first.

[โ€“] Willem@kutsuya.dev 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same here, is it going to be (H)olland, (T)he Netherlands or (N)etherlands, with the minor inconvenience of (N)ederland.

[โ€“] superkret@feddit.org 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same here, can be (G)ermany or (D)eutschland.
And when the website sucks (looking at you Microsoft), it's Deutschland, but placed in the list at G.

[โ€“] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Or (A)llemagne, (N)iemcy, (T)yskland, (S)aksa, (V)asija (you won't encounter the last two unless you use a website in Finnish or Estonian, however the first three are used in numerous countries including Germany's neighbors).
The lists are occasionally auto-translated, sometimes I see "๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท Truthahn".

[โ€“] LorIps@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

In my case it's either (A)ustria, (ร–)sterreich (listed as O), or (ร–)sterreich (listed after Z)

[โ€“] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Similarly, sometimes forms use foreign countries' English names, and sometimes the native names. Pretty annoying as a German.

And a special "screw you" to any UI devs that don't use the native behavior when typing letters while focused on a select field.

[โ€“] Deebster@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Or (B)ritain? Once I even found (T)he UK, which I only discovered by searching the page source.

[โ€“] Galapagon@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Most forms will let you type the letters to jump in the list. You're welcome!

[โ€“] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Some don't. And the devs that implement those should be publicly shamed in pillories.

[โ€“] Vincent@feddit.nl 8 points 1 year ago

Worst thing is that that usually cost more effort.

[โ€“] Klear@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yup. I just press D and up to get to Czech Republic every time.

Congratulations, you triggered a filter search...

This happens so often I instinctively press โŒซ, C, Z when I see this specific list.

That's straight up evil

I love it

[โ€“] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

On a computer, that's easy. On a phone, not so much, especially if the field lacks anything that will bring up the keyboard

Scrolling through 200 items is easier on a phone than a desktop without PgUp/PgDn.

[โ€“] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I hate it more when the US is added as a privileged spot at the top.

[โ€“] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean iโ€™ve implemented where it shows the current countryโ€™s connection at the top. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

[โ€“] Shardikprime@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This guy intl's

[โ€“] hash@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If we put California at the top on the state selectors some people would flip their shit. Same thing.

[โ€“] Agent641@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

TFW you're australian so you type "AUST" and hit enter but all of a sudden you're wearing lederhosen and yodeling at some mountains.

I imagine the Australian embassy in Vienna already has forms to handle the situation, and so does the Austrian one in Canberra.

[โ€“] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Zimbabwe has the advantage of being at the bottom of the list, so you just scroll all the way down and click.

It's the same advantage as having a Volvo.

[โ€“] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[โ€“] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Then you wouldn't be shopping for parts, you'd be shopping for a junk removal service

[โ€“] lath@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Americuh' should be no1 on the list! (None of the other countries on the continent matter.)

[โ€“] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

America, United States of (also known as the AUS).

Those annoy me more because I often instantly scroll to the bottom and miss that its in the wrong spot.

[โ€“] samus12345@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Cheer up, it will be the Divided States soon enough, closer to the top!

[โ€“] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Soon they will be scrolling for (W)estern Alliance

[โ€“] _____@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think I saw this mentioned but you're are all aware that you can press "U" and it will select United States, right ?

[โ€“] Amir@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

United Kingdom

Really Iโ€™m just happy to be at an end. Nigerians have it rough there.

[โ€“] umbraroze@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm in Finland and it's always mildly weird when these country lists have "Aland Islands" right in the top. I'm not entirely sure in which circumstances the folks from ร…land even pick that option. But, I mean, it's an autonomous region, they do have the right to mildly confuse the people who collect user statistics.

(There was also that one incident when some Google product wasn't available in EU as a whole due to regulations that had to be sorted out, but it was somehow available in ร…land because Google did an oopsie.)

[โ€“] TeNppa@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also some places have option "Finland" and some have "Suomi" and it should never be "Suomi" unless it's a Finnish site IMO.

[โ€“] umbraroze@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Also some sites ask for email addresses.

I give them my .fi address.

The sites then go "did you mean .fr?"

And I'm like "No actually I'm in Finland. It's a whole different country. Don't get me wrong, I love the French, great country. I love our EU brothers and sisters and enbypals. Just don't buy a nuclear reactor from them."

[โ€“] zach@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 year ago

At least Zimbabwe knows they can always scroll to the bottom

[โ€“] Etterra@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Of course a lot of these, particularly this with nearly or entirely US users, just put the US at the top. Which is smart. I'd expect shit based on other countries to do likewise, especially non-English sites.

[โ€“] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's smart until I instinctually scroll to the U section only to not find United States

[โ€“] joel_feila@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It should be America, United States
