Some are. Those of us who maintain our own cognitive skills will one day be forced to care for these lost deluded idiots.

Sounds pretty cooked to me.

It’s kind of sad. Person is very alone it seems

[–] gwulgg@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 hours ago

I don’t think it’s just this. These people aren’t all so lonely they turn to a chatbot for everything. Sure, some are. A fair portion of them though are just malignant narcissists who love the praise and fawning an AI will heap on them

Its worse than ever, also because people don't seem to realize it's technology that is keeping them alone. You cant connect and make friends over "social" media or Lemmy or whatever. It's just spending time to feel less alone. It will never cure it.

You are alone because you don't dare to go out into the real world and try to meet people. At least for guys, we can connect over some activity pretty easily, like pool or billiards. Just need to do it.

There is also meetup site to go on random events with strangers. It can work, or at least make you sick of people for a while if it doesn't work. :)

Nah, I've made several close friends in RL from online dating sites and discord. I've made some solid electronic pen pals on Mastodon too.

Not as many as going out and being social, but it's competitive.

Me normally: "AI is here to stay, we just should make corporations to charge the true price for them!"

Me after reading about stuff like this: "We need a Butlerian Jihad, yesterday!"

I think that even if this particular instance may be real or not, is clearly that AI psychosis is way more prevalent than what people may think at first glance.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I still can't believe that human beings are having AI as a boyfriend/girlfriend, claiming they actually love them.

Its rare but it's real.

I bet people like that have narcissistic traits but don’t have the social skills or have too much social anxiety to get their ego stroked by a real person. And once they use a chat bot which are basically little sycophants, their narcissistic itch gets scratched like it never has been scratched before. It’s a high they mistake for love.

Jesus fucking Christ. We're so fucking cooked haha.

People feel lonely and human iteration is, most of the time, horrible for many people.

I prefer to just talk to myself out loud, but I've seen many people resorting to AI to just chat about things, and to be honest I get the feeling of wanting something supportive and positive in your life.

Solution would be to people to stop being douchebags.

OMG THIS SINGLE X POST MUST BE REAL BECAUSE IT CONFIRMS MY WORLD VIEW

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 24 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

I mean to be fair people having parasocial relationships with AI is absolutely a thing. The post could be lying, but it's well within the realm of possibility.

How would he see the row in front? Immediately as the plane lands. And immediately recognise it as chatgpt?

My friend did that! It pissed me off so bad. She was on a stuck train in the station on the subway in New York and talked to chatgpt about what to do, and then for some reason sent me screenshots of it afterward? Girl just get off the train

I asked a question at a bank to a teller and they used Gemini to answer it. All they had to do was enter a term into their database (they did that later - because Gemini was wrong).

Yes, the LLMs that are famously bad at arithmetic are now being forced onto staff in banks. This will end well.

[–] starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works 14 points 15 hours ago (5 children)

LLMs literally reduce our problem solving capabilities as we use them more. Even if the problems are "easy," we still lose that muscle and have to rely on the llm more and more.
