A fully accurate movie about ancient Greece would have a lot MORE queer stuff
Critical Drinker got this one completely wrong.
It doesn't matter, he already made his money from the faux outrage he and other right wing grifters successfully generated. Whether his predictions are accurate is irrelevant because he doesn't have a reputation as a real film critic to uphold and the social media debate cycle is so fast nowadays that he can immediately pivot to a new "controversy" and start milking that.
Didn't they say it would make lots of money because it is a Christopher Nolan movie.
It'll do fine, it still won't make it a good movie (nothing to do with that) it'll be a typical Hollywood pander film, big visuals, little substance. Oppenheimer was praised for being a mediocre piece of crap.

I liked it, but I found it visually disappointing. No gods except Athena, Sirens boring, Hades boring, Circe boring (except the transformation scene, that was sick).

I highly doubt that. I haven't seen it yet but Nolan uses vfx in all his films. As he should, people who think "CGI always sucks" never know how much CGI is used that they don't see.

Unless the movie is Star Wars or Avengers: Endgame or Avatar, nobody should be spending a quarter of a billion dollars on a movie. Dune 2's budget was $190 million, for a sci-fi epic, with a proven audience. This is just a fantasy story.
Making the budget on debut is incredible lucky, but it might still be considered a "flop" because of the extra $200M or whatever of marketing budget.

Christopher Nolan is his own brand that has a proven audience. In a sense, Universal paid handsomely to poach him from Warner Brothers, and giving him big budgets is part of that deal.
And he has yet to disappoint or not make money so it's working fine. It already made over $260 million globally and the weekend isn't even over yet. It will absolutely still be the biggest movie to see for the next several weeks so it did it's job. Sometimes I feel like there isn't one thing on Lemmy that people can't find something to complain about! I can't wait to see it still, but there were no good seats at any theater near me when i finally decided to go. Next weekend it is!

There's an xkcd pointing out that it's a lot easier to hate something everyone else likes, than to love something everyone else hates, and that honestly really changed the way I view popularity and contrarianism. I respect contrarians who can love what is hated but I'm totally dismissive of anyone trying to criticize what is popular.

Anytime I look up a forum thread of a movie I'm watching/wanting to watch (spoiler-free), at least half of the comments are "this movie was trash and you should feel bad for liking it."
And the other half feel the need to justify why they liked it to the half that hated it for reasons they literally can't put into words (if they do it's always the most contrived/overused excuse in critiquing).
I still don't really know what you're trying to say. Did you mean to type "special effects" instead of "practical" at the beginning of your comment?
Practical effects are more expensive than computer generated, both are special effects.
Doesn't Disney spend that on most of their movies.

I have no problem with that. My problem is that it is fantasy set in a real time in human history, and it deviates from that source it is based on. It is an adoption of a great work of art and it fumbles with the details.
I really want to wait so I can go to an IMAX to eTvh this film. Any recommendations or arguments against it?
Wear earplugs! I watched it at home and the opening scene still shook the room. "It's supposed to be loud" is a really dumb reason to get ear damage.
