Wha-

Floppies are thinner than CDs.

They're just not nudists.

I have altered the context of the joke, pray I do not alter it further.

@sp3ctr4l
I'm sorry, I'm bad about humor going over my head 😅

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

force chokes you, but only a little bit

Only one of those is the global symbol for saving one's work, though. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Poor CDs.

That corner cutout is grossly exagerrated. In the actual floppy disk (which is also not floppy anymore) the cutout is tiny.

[–] ozymandias117@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's grossly exaggerated because it was designed when we had UX designers

It has to look okay all the way down to 8x8 pixels

Justice for the 5.25" floppy disk! It had an actual hole inside, which would fit your finger! You could see it's a disk and not a weird shaped square box, and you could hear it's rotating.

[–] ozymandias117@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Ah, if you're saying it should have been designed based off 5.25" I'm down :)

back in the ol' 8bit commodore days, we had one of these gadgets so we could flip 'em over and use the other side

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

good ol capitalism, it’s cheaper to just make all discs double sided and market some as single sided and the others as double for more price …

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 days ago

the disk is still floppy, it just has a hard outer shell for protection.

Only in the west. In China they use an SD card.

we hang them up like wind chimes around the veggie garden. they spook some of the would-be freeloading diners.

[–] squirrel@cake.kobel.fyi 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Because it's a Nickelback album

That might be too effective. 😵‍💫🤢

Unless they’re exFAT.

You’re getting a red book for unsportsmanlike conduct.

FAT8 was fucking lean. Only a single directory, up to 255 files, the FAT table that only took up one sector, 16 sectors to hold all of the 16 character names and a 256byte sector size. (Only a max of 255 clusters though)

So it held more data, supported more files, supported bigger file names and took up less space than FAT-12, FAT-16 and CBM DOS
