Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"VATICAN CITY, June 23 (Reuters) - The Vatican on Tuesday reaffirmed a long-standing rule that only an ordained priest or deacon can give a sermon at a Catholic mass, ‌rejecting a request from German bishops to broaden the practice and allow sermons by women or other laypeople."

Mary Magdalene: "Hey, guys, I was just at Jesus' tomb and I've got some good news---"

Peter: "Stop it with your women's talk nonsense. I'll go check it out and report back."

And that's been the story for the 2000 years since!

as a Catholic myself, a trained chimp could deliver those god damn sermons. It's the same shit on a yearly basis like clockwork. if a Woman wants to do that then what's the problem? Sing, routine prayer shit, reading directly from the bible the exact same passage from the same time last year, kneel, stand, kneel, sing, more routine, communion, kneel, stand, more singing.

Seriously, a trained chimp.

I'm definitely replacing "sincerely" with "seriously" for all my correspondence.

Seriously, A minimally-trained chimp

akshually 🤓 it's a six years long cycle (2 years + 3 years) but under no circumstances you will deprive village's assigned reactionary of their soapbox. without church, who would be running political interference??

If they don't reform they could make themselves irrelevant faster. So maybe it's a positive overall.

It's absolutely amazing how idiotic people are. I get wanting the warm fuzzy feeling of an afterlife, but the church has actively changed what "God" wanted to benefit the church several times. How daft do you have to be to not realise it's a cash grab.

The Roman Empire just co-opted the religion, changed a bunch of stuff, and stomped out any other sects that didn't fit their narrative of patriarchal oppression. Pretty sure big J would have hated what his "followers" are up to.

The highest rank a woman can achieve in the Catholic Church will continue to be Nun....

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is a Mother Superior considered a higher rank than regular nun? Or is it like tech lead, more responsibilities but same pay.

Once again a great example of why religion does not belong in the 21st century. No matter how tolerant and progressive they claim or pretend to be, there will always be something that shows they just want to adhere to their medieval rules.

And touch little kids. They seem to be keeping that tradition alive.

[–] neutronbumblebee@mander.xyz 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Phoebe the deaconess would like a word about that. Given Paul thanks her for being a "diakonos" or deacon of the church in Cenchreae. They honor the Bible but prefer their own accumulated traditions over scripture.

If they don't appeal to misogynists who else will they attract?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)
