IT'S LIKE RAAAAAAAIIIIINN on your wedding day.

A greeeen light, when you're already late.

Some good advice, that you just didn't take.

And who would've thought, Al Gore was based.

I would also like to point out that the NHS 111 helpline DOES NOT have a list of cooling centres to escape the extreme heat.

We're just walking straight into societal collapse and nobody's doing the slightest thing about it.

Not a single person in the entire world.

I mean, millions of scientists... but no one else.

Well, some politicians don't have their head completely up their ass, but not any others.

Well... significant portions of the population are at least trying to mitigate it in what limited fashion they're allowed to... but that's it.

Or rather, the ruling capital class is doing nothing about it and in fact seemingly hastening the effects in order to glorify themselves and solidify their power over others. And while there is significant scientific and popular support for doing something about it... most just aren't willing to give up the comforts those capitalists graciously sell to us to do enough to stop it.

I would never have thought people in the UK would be seeking out shopping centres in summer like Aussies do but here we are

I have a mate in Scotland who is struggling…ya ready…to keep his green tree pythons cool. In Perth in Scotland, trying to keep a tropical snake species cool.

Museums are also a good place to cool down (can't take pythons there, though).

Of course

I feel for Europeans dealing with this. Fine for Aussies, were used to it but when places like Scotland are too hot for GTPs then there’s issues

I don’t try to cool mine down until it’s around 32-33C

This would actually be a pretty funny thing to happen if it were not so serious and life threatening.

I'm surprised they don't have AC. Schools of Economics tend to be filthy rich because they get tons of foreign students who pay a fortune.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

AC is not for filthy rich people. In the era of global warming, AC in heatwaves should be treated as much a human right as heating in cold snaps.

[–] sparkyshocks@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes. But as that gets rolled out and implemented, assume that the richer organizations would be able to get those ACs installed faster and earlier.

Which is why we need to elect proper socialist parties to ensure equity and that climate survival and adaptation does not become a pay-to-play scheme.

I'm surprised they didn't go online-only. Scholars of Economics also tend to have internet connection.

... Kind of a mic drop.
