OP, any explanation for that duck house you wanted us to believe was part of a templar ritual place?

https://lemmy.world/comment/24369003

it was the ritual of the noisy waterfowl

How the heck do they keep it from flooding?

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

They don't. That's not what it's like. It's just a big well in the ground.

Second pic is the accurate one. You go up the hill, walk in, then all the way down. Exit from there. It's not surrounded by water.

Just to add to this - the first picture is an unnamed novelty duck house near the ground of Pena palace. It's only a few feet high.

The second is the Torre da Regaleira.

duck house like chicken coop? i am having some moderate confusion i think

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

If a chicken coop didn't have a lockable door, was on an island or raft in a body of water, and housed ducks instead of chickens, yeah.

Swims over

Looks down

"Well..."

Weird. Doesn't look like the same place at all.

I've looked up pictures of the palace and the initiation well, but that tower is never in the well pictures.

This map shows what the top of the well looks like.

Zelda music starts playing in my head

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I think I killed a Colossus down there once

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

All I see is the tower making a surprised face.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How I imagined the tower looks like in Annihilation (novel).

[–] dantheclamman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Yes, Jeff Vandermeer directly cites it as an inspiration! https://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/jeffvandermeer

Came to the comments to see if anyone else had the same thought… and then to spin it off into a discussion about Annihilation. One of the few instances where I love the movie and the book almost equally, and in big part because of their differences while still having the same foundation. Also have to mention that the story almost feels like a sequel/logical trajectory to my favorite Lovecraft story, The Colour Out of Space

Sintra is one of the best places I've visit in Europe. This, and the Palacio Nacional da Pena, were fantastic.

I just know this is the 5th dungeon, and the 4th dungeon will reward me with something that will make me swim.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Tower looks like it can't think of anything to say.

[–] Skylordd78@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Oh my god this place looks so beautiful

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago

That's like an enchanted forest!

You know how for a lot of big cities in Europe there's one or two places outside the city but closeby that are well worth visiting (for example, Potsdam near Berlin)?

If you visit Lisbon it's well worth it to visit Sintra (were this is) and Cascais (which is on the way and easier to access since there's a commuter train that goes directly there from Cais Do Sodré in Lisbon).

Tower looks like :o

[–] nlgranger@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Pan's Labyrinth features the second place. I swore to never re-watch this (beautiful) movie.

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can eat that anyway. Peephole it too.

I meant deep throat

Looks like it fell over, burnt down, then sank into the swamp

[–] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

What about the 4th one?

[–] tracker@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

These are not the same place. The inside picture is a hole in the ground, no water around (was there a couple of months ago) The outside, middle of the lake tower, I haven’t seen there…
