That must be this "American Blue" they're all talking about

[–] replicat@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Gotta love the 2 other comparably sized pools in this image that don't have the alge.

[–] wowwoweowza@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I may turn this into a t-shirt

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 17 hours ago

"It's American Flag Green, exactly what I wanted. You can't find that color in nature. It's beautiful."

[–] KalSeth@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't understand why they don't paint it yellow? The green algae and the yellow paint will make it look blue.

Check out Van Gogh over here, mixing colors.

"hooray, we did it?"

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 58 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The other bodies of water in this picture are what interest me. Both the Pond and the Tidal Basin look bluer, showing what it would have looked like. Now it's the color of grift.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They're probably also deeper, which both provides a less ideal environment for algae to grow and also looks bluer despite algae that might be growing. The water in the tidal basin is also moving and has water naturally flowing in and out. The reflecting pool does not have that and needs to be shallow so that water movement is minimized to create the reflection it's supposed to give.

The algae multiplied. Who could have predicted they would do that? It was an entirely novel strategy.

This damn single celled organism is just far too intelligent for the trump administration.

[–] Town@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago

I don't know what you mean, he stopped testing and the numbers went down.

Next week these idiots will be saying "It's supposed to be green" so that dont have to admit they voted for a fool.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Why would they wait until next week?

Algae produce a shitload of oxygen, so it's super eco-friendly

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 16 hours ago

except it causes a feedback, eutrophication effect. teh algae dieback, and the consumption of oxygen by bacteria when the alge decomposies causes deadzone in the water. this is not that bad, since its manmade and not connected to another natural water system.

i guess that’s 1 way to get him to do whatever it takes to change it

I hear green was his favorite color. Very popular with Muslims, y'know.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn't it a bit late for St. Patrick's Day?

Or it's early.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

It's green because Iran's flag has green and Iran's a winner.

[–] siravious@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’d rather vote for the algae too

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

At least Algae is useful.

[–] Kcap@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Chlorophyll? More like Bore-o-phyll!

[–] cattywampus@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're telling me they elected someone not competent and they're shocked he's not competent?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yet still not as shocked as that pool is gonna be.

Algae are cool.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

So he painted the bottom a different colour? I'm unclear about how exactly that was supposed to help.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

It didn't help. The "paint" is now peeling off in giant sheets.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh yes properly applied waterproof paint is known to do that after a week of use.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 hours ago

$14 million no bid worth.

[–] mech@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago

What do you expect when you give the contract for installing the water purification system to a company called Greenwater Services?

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 7 points 1 day ago

looks like a mini-putt, with a giant hole on the end that he'd still miss by a mile.
