Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Well I know what the FBI is going to be too busy with to possibly look into the new Epstien information

[–] BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

New Epstein information just gets funneled into the burn bag incinerator

This looks like a Plants vs. Zombies aesthetic, LOL.

"86 47" became a contentious phrase after former FBI Director James Comey was indicted

It's not 'contentious', it's just anti-Trump.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemmy.zip 55 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Reminder that “8646” was NOT contentious when MAGA was selling merchandise with that on it while Biden was POTUS.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Fascists are notoriously thin-skinned.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

They also notoriously love a double-standard.

Excellent examples of why insecurity is poison that will eventually consume everything you are.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

You dare question the corporate news sewer, peasant?!

With your . . . logic and . . . reason!

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

it's just a reference to the louis jordan song that has the line '86 on the cherry pie', that was released in '47.

[–] bert@lemmy.monster 69 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Solid reporting in that final paragraph.

National Park Service workers were seen roping off the area Thursday afternoon, and National Guard members appeared to be directing the public away from the grass. National Park Service workers were seen later roping off the area.

[–] fork@feddit.online 41 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The second roping off makes it extra secure.

[–] VinegarChunks@lemmus.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

My family and I visited the Capitol building maybe four years ago and there were no fewer than 7 layers if fence between me and the door.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But what was the National Guard doing? They can’t leave it all to the National Guards! Also, we need to know who was managing the public.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

The National Guard are doing more to control the scene of the lawn than they did during January 6th.

More like solid proof ABC is using AI slop to write their articles.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 9 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know, that looks like lazy human. Definitely rubber stamp editor (if any at all).

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Porque no los dos?

[–] Monument@piefed.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

What about even later? Were they seen going home for the day?

Do the workers need to be rebooted? Or like, is the rope they’re using not long enough? Are they just walking laps with a too-short rope, endlessly attempting to enclose a volume they will never have a long enough rope to enclose? Just chasing the end as it moves away from them with each step?
Does their struggle represent the American dream? Is there a smug geometry teacher somewhere yelling “this is why you need to know the formula for perimeters!” at their news source?

Sometimes grass just do that

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

No. This is the work of a Hero with a lawnmower

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My favorite acts of resistance are the ones that make the fascists look stupid, it's sometimes hard because they're very image conscious, but it's sometimes easy because they are in fact stupid.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

And sometimes it's easy because they're very image-conscious (and stupid).

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Welp, time to arrest Comey again.

Shame the rest of the digits didn't come out as clean as the '8'. This had serious T-shirt potential.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure a bit of photo enhancing will bring those other digits right out.

Enhance, damnit! ENHANCE!!!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

LOL. LMAO, even.

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Any news on how they did it?

My first thought was maybe a roundup or acid soaked towel? That could explain the pixelated look.

[–] benjirenji@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I thought roundup doesn't work on grasses? But I agree that the pixelated look suggests they couldn't directly see the process and had to map it out beforehand and follow through row by row or something.

what does 86 47 mean? I missed that

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

86 - slang meaning "get rid of"

47 - Trump is the 47th (and 45th) president of the US.

[–] northernlights@fedia.io 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

oh, thanks. 15 years in the US and I still trip on idioms sometimes. I forgot about "86" (probably because I never understood where it comes from).

[–] AccoSpoot1@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

There's a folk etymology that it comes from a particularly infamous speakeasy with two entrances, one on 86th street, and unruly patrons would be forcibly ejected from that entry.

[–] northernlights@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Cort@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Now it's commonly used in restaurant kitchens to indicate something (an ingredient or whole dish) should be thrown out

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago

Or sometimes, still indicates a patron in need of ejection or blacklisting! :p

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah it's pretty archaic at this point.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It's pretty old-fashioned, so no surprise! It comes from the hospitality industry, but where the term itself comes from is unknown.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

It means trump should be removed from office via impeachment.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Dilute bleach. Someone did this to a neighbors yard with a large penis.
