In an interview with TMZ published on Friday, Vanilla Ice said that he did not think the concert should be “any political thing,” adding, “I don’t even vote, so I don’t even care.”

The rapper, who has appeared at a New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, said he would be happy to perform for anyone.

“You play for your fans,” he said. “And I’ll go play for Putin, and I’ll play in Iran if you want. It don’t matter.”

Vanilla Ice continuing to be just unbelievably cringe.

There's ICE in his name. What did you expect?

[–] radioactivefunguy@piefed.ca 22 points 4 months ago

His name is likely why he gets these MAGA gigs in the first place . . .

Apparently 5 of 9 musical acts have cancelled, stating generally that they were misled regarding the nature of the event. Enormous thanks to the artists who have cancelled, from your old fans and new fans worldwide!!

"After the lineup for the concerts was announced, the hip-hop artist Young MC said he would not perform, adding that “artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.” The funk-soul group the Commodores, the rock musician Bret Michaels and Morris Day and the Time also canceled performances.

“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be part of,” Mr. Michaels, the frontman of the rock group Poison, wrote on social media."

The announced concert lineup was heavily tilted toward legacy acts like Morris Day and Vanilla Ice, and many of them share the same booking agent in Jeff Epstein of Universal Attractions. Epstein did not respond to repeat requests for comment.

You have GOT to be shitting me.

Friendship ended with Jeffrey Epstein.

Now Jeff Epstein is my best friend.

He wants to headline and do his own rally.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's too active. Dude goes up stairs huffing and puffing.

This is more his speed

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 months ago

The lip fillers are just so ridiculous looking

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago (3 children)

“Cancel it,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding, “We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.”

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 28 points 4 months ago (2 children)

and yet who do nothing but complain.

Has anyone kept count for how much the tangerine pedophile has whined in his second term?

[–] angryred67@piefed.social 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've been thinking lately, I'd like a list of all the crazy shit he's proposed on a daily basis that never sees the light of day; or even makes it to the next newsday before it's supplanted by the next crazy shit. Yeah, he does a lot of horrible shit, but he keeps up the mental abuse in between with insane proposals that he never means to carry out, and are only there to keep us freaked out.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 4 points 4 months ago

This is was all drawn out and planned in Project 2025... it's called "Flooding the Zone"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Has anyone kept count for how much the tangerine pedophile has whined ~~in his second term~~ his entire fucking life?

The dude has been a whiny baby in public since at least the 80s.

[–] tburkhol@slrpnk.net 23 points 4 months ago (5 children)

I vaguely remember the Bicentennial. The special quarters. Parades & fireworks. I know it was in the wake of Vietnam, and I remember MIA flags. I know it was in the middle of the Carter-Ford campaign, but I don't remember it being a Republicans-only kind of thing. Maybe I was just young and naive.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Genuinely, we haven’t always been this divided.

Until around 2000 when that election turned news into a 24 hour entertainment. Citizens United 10 years later and the seeds of our division were well and truly planted.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

i sorta remember it too. we were in a very small town back then, parade and big block party. the whole town was there. i would guess pretty much every small town from coast-to-coast had something similar.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

It wasn’t political. We were living in the same country together.

Not like now.

[–] toast@retrolemmy.com 2 points 4 months ago

I just remember so much bunting. Didn't know bunting was a thing until '76. Suddenly, red white and blue fabric draped over everything.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I'll add pioneer wagon train, tall ship flotillas, and painting fire hydrants to your list.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago

he never did gaf about the music. all he wants is to be center stage and rant and rage against everything that someone with a million dollars to stuff in his diaper wants him to hate.

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 25 points 4 months ago

I tried to Pay Overpriced Singers NOBODY wants to Hear to play BORING Music at the America 250 Concert!

-SUPER JENIUS Donald Trump!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago (3 children)

If the democrats had a smart bone left, they could have organized their own 250 festivities. I don't think they had the same kind of problem to get artists for that.

[–] angryred67@piefed.social 18 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] londos@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

They should do 250 simultaneous festivals. 5 per state

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 5 points 4 months ago

They could do another one of those No King things in that day... that'll probably be pretty funny and make the MAGA folk whiney.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Lil Jon in da house!

YEAH!

[–] phar@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What a whiny little bitch he is

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

The infamous pop duo Milli Vanilli, also announced as part of the lineup, is in a somewhat strange position. The group won a best new artist Grammy in 1990 before it was revealed that frontmen Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus had not sung on the recordings credited to them. Jodie Rocco, one of the artists who provided the real vocals for the group and who performs with other singers from the sessions under the name “The Real Milli Vanilli,” told the AP that she was “shocked” that Milli Vanilli was a listed act. Pilatus died in 1998. Morvan, however, is still expected to perform at the Great American State Fair — with his own voice.

Shit, Rob's story is pretty tragic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Pilatus

I’m just about done season 5 of the boys and I just can’t stop seeing everything from that show being relevant with what’s going on in America.

It hurts how campy that show is and yet even though we don’t have literal super heroes we still have garbage homelander.

[–] slowmolaggins@thelemmy.club 9 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

How much fun would it have been if instead of canceling, they just didn't show up? Great big advertising schemes, tons of hype, and then a great big silence. Legal retaliation is probably the big reason why they're being upfront about it, but I would pay to see Trump getting stood up and embarrassed in the moment instead of having time to re-plan.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I just want to see a sea of red hatted gravy seals pretending to enjoy Flo Rida.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 months ago

You have to wonder, are they too dumb to call up people like Carrie Underwood, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock to fill spots? Or is it so bad, that even THEY won't do it?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

CNN reached out to representatives for all of the artists who were slated to perform. Many declined to comment or didn’t respond.

lol.

Hey Mr. 1990 One-hit-wonder, CNN's on the phone asking for an interview. "Uh, I'm not here."

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Headline is definitely correct about Pumpkinhead and the entire conservative "movement" if you stop at "freedom".

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

What a fucking joke.
