I took the family down to Texas for the eclipse a few years ago. But the best deals on flights were from Houston, the place we wanted to see the eclipse from was in Dallas (Perot), and I really wanted to see Austin.

Anyways while we were in Austin my wife went out to explore the city on her own, while I stayed with the sleeping kids. She went down to Sixth Street and got a tattoo of a luna moth to commemorate the event.

Next day, the kids saw it from an upside down perspective and thought it was Mr. Krabs.

I have a deep love for these critters.

Mainly because of their beauty, but also because I first encountered them where my family would gather for a yearly reunion. There would be dozens of them flitting around lit areas each night. You'd find them hanging on screen doors to cabins, and they were not bothered by humans; they'd land on you as though you were any old block of wood.

Most interactive insect I ever ran across lol.

Hey my family had a place in the woods that we would go to in the summer and these moths would come out at night and they looked like little fairies flying around it was so awesome.

I've only ever seen one once, but it was unforgettable. Fun fact, they have reduced mouthparts and don't consume any food in this state. They live only for a week. Just enough time to find a mate and procreation.
