If you Make Amazon PAY Fines then HOW will they Trickle down Their ~~Layoffs!~~ ~~Hiring!~~ Wealth?

-REALLY Smart Republicans!

i honestly thought amazon went electric everywhere but good for him

Maybe on their vehicles but there’s an absolute ton of contractors doing last mile in whatever they can find.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

They have A LOT of them but really only ~20% of their fleet. Hopefully this will encourage them to accelerate that transition. There's also "Amazon Flex" which hires contractors like Uber.

[–] French75@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I doubt that Amazon is slow rolling it. Demand for EV trucks is insane. I was working on procuring some in a different industry a couple years ago, and we just could not get them in any meaningful quantity. Lead times were years out. I think we actually got one during the time I was on the project.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Rivian is already selling to other companies. Amazon could have very well paid them to remain exclusive until they completed their fleet.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

To hear my brother who works at a legacy manufacturer, nobody wants them so they’re not worth building. 🙈

Amazon made 80 billion in operational income (after all expenses, pre-tax) in 2025, this is 0.001% of that. It's like fining a person making $31k a year $3.10.

Any fines that go towards the people are good fines for a company like Amazon, but it's not enough

[–] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think you may have replied to the wrong person.

[–] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I think it's to suggest that this fine won't do anything to motivate Amazon to go full electric.

[–] Denvil@piefed.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

That is what I was suggesting

[–] artyom@piefed.social 0 points 2 weeks ago

It will, along with many many other factors that are already driving the transition.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 31 points 2 weeks ago

Good. Fuck amazon. Fine them harder.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 24 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Every single freight company does this. Every single one.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 20 points 2 weeks ago

That's why it's so fucking stupid that the USPS scrapped their plans for an electric fleet. Delivery vehicles are perfect for electric

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Cops too, they even add a larger fuel tank to keep the engine blowing smog 24/7

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Good.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Good. We could easily decrease our fuel usage by a double-digit percentage just by minimizing all the idle time of vehicles whether it be police, construction workers, delivery drivers, or just soccer moms or people sitting in their car in a parking lot.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wtf is with all the people just sitting in their cars staring at their phones with the engine running

There's someone virtually everywhere I go. I don't think it used to be this common...

[–] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I walk laps around the parking lot during my lunch time at work and soooooo many people go out to their car and sit there with the engine running. For no fucking reason. Like if it's too hot or cold, don't go to your car. They do it when it's nice out too. Insanity. Crack a window if you need a breeze or something. So dumb

[–] Atropos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

But the woke outside air has chemtrails that turn the frogs gay! Gotta have my murican A/C.

Smh my head

[–] Today@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

School buses! Ours are supposed to have a limit of a few minutes but no one follows it.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Great: Amazon has been using EVs for their delivery vans near me, maybe this will push their adoption in more places!

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

The Daily Show did a report about it and idling fees are reported by citizens which then get % of the fine. Are some people about the get nice payouts?
