I would love millenials and GenZ to bury this, but... uhhhhhh

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 1 points 35 minutes ago

Hopefully, I will get to contribute to that shortness of breath.

I sure hope there's better control of and auditing of voting machines in swing states this time. No last-minute system updates followed by immediate re-updates after the election.

Can we please get this man and some of his energy running for office? I really want to see more people that are as well spoken as this guy getting on stages and torching the establishment in speeches and debates.

Go to Louisiana and do it🙄

[–] Folstar@lemmus.org 3 points 15 hours ago

"...doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." So long as we are stuck in our archaic form of government with de facto two parties, 18th century notions of accountability, and ethics standards that make Burger King appear admirable, the cycle will keep repeating. There will probably always be terrible people among us. When a small group can seize easily seize a party that sits at around half of political power and just needs a slight advantage to take full control of the country, the path will remain winding and difficult.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/black-louisianan-calls-maga-the-last-breath-of-the-confederacy/ar-AA23cJDR

A Louisiana man said during a state Senate redistricting hearing that MAGA was "the last breath of the Confederacy."

In an emotional speech on Monday, the resident who identified himself as Marshawn said he had "zero doubt" that Republicans in the state would pass a map that erased majority-Black districts.

"If y'all can give us less than zero seats, you would do it. Y'all do this under the orders of somebody that said the Civil Rights Act was harm for the white people, that it caused reverse racism," he explained. "RFK said that Black children are overfilled on antidepressants and that they need to be re-parented on different forms, all of them. Pete Hegseth constantly brings Doug Wilson to the Pentagon to give a prayer service. Doug Wilson is the same pastor that said that slave owners were on strong spiritual ground."

Marshawn argued that the only reason Republicans supported redistricting is that President Donald Trump demanded it.

"So as far as I'm concerned, if you hear as one of these TrumpRepublicans, you already showed us who you are. You showed us what you want to do. And I believe the country as a whole is rebuking your party. Y'all are in a death spiral. That's why you have to redistrict," he observed. "That's why y'all have to cheat. That's why Trump got to go to Texas and say he entitled to five more seats. It's because y'all know what y'all doing is abhorrent."

"But the beautiful thing is, the children that y'all have made, and the people that's younger than y'all don't support none of this racism that y'all want," the man continued. "The MAGA party is the last breath of the Confederacy, and I'll be happy to see millennials and Gen Z. bury y'all. There will be no more of your party. The midterms gonna come, y'all gonna get wiped out."

The man concluded by asserting that "Trump gonna get dragged out of the White House, and I'm gonna love every second of it."

"Because y'all loved every second of the suffering that he calls to everybody in this country. And worldwide, we starve in Cuba. We bomb Nigeria. We holding Zimbabwe and Zambia hostage for their minerals. We don't want to give them AIDS support," he added. "The pro-lifers that say all life is special, y'all letting kids die of AIDS. What part of your Bible say that? Point out the scripture. I think everybody would love to see it. And we would love to see y'all in the midterms."

IMO, he's already re-elected... BTW how about those files?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just listened to the interview with the AZ sec of state. Simultaneously confidence building and also frightening in how liberals just insist that imaginary forces of good will win the day.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But they do though. The problem is the timeframe isn't fixed. Could be tomorrow could be 20 years. That's the monkeys paw in action.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 41 minutes ago

The imaginary forces of good are always just over the horizon for some reason.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorry, I'm not a big fan of comic books or Disney.

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

?

"Monkeys paw" is a reference to an old short story, and in this context it boils down to "be careful what you wish for"

I think he was going for the "and everyone lived happily ever after" business common to tgose stories. Reality tends not to wrap up so neatly.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don't kid yourself. Left/right politics (as opposed to up/down class politics) is the oldest cultural programming politics has.

Some millennials and GenZ will remain life long Trump supporters. Just as some people stuck with Regan and Nixon.

Parties go into hibernation for decades, but without systemic change that ends two party politics in a way that increases democratic representation - these two leviathans will continue to exist.

Best you can hope for is to encourage your preferred form of Conservatism and then have political interests you align with, fund and foster that preferred form into dominance within right wing politics.

To win you have to take over both sides from within AND keep your original values intact.

I appreciate the sentiment, but how many breaths do these bastards have?

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

As many as they can as long as we keep giving them oxygen.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 37 minutes ago

Try giving them Pb with a Cu jacket.

[–] numbermess@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago

Does seem like quite a few

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

I hope he's right but it's probably just the "last breath" until the next "last breath".

[–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I wish winning the midterms was enough to fix this problem.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 11 points 1 day ago

It’s a start, but there is so much more work to do, and people will need to learn to live with their heads outside of their asses. Sadly most folks seem to think the midterms are the one weird trick that will allow them to shove it straight back up..

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

it wont, since gop states are already gerrymandering, purging voters as we speak, lousiania, texas, tennessee, florida are the notable oens. Also the complicity of the house and senate dems who made thier alliance pretty obvious to israel.

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

If we can't do it politically, we have no problem doing it physically.

[–] U7826391786239@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

someone put that dude in office already

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 2 points 1 day ago

Tell Louisiana that.

[–] yonderbarn@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 day ago

Does anyone have a link to his campaign website?

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Someone got a direct video link of this? I wanna share on my socials

[–] FederatedFreedom1981@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just remember, he controls the military.

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He doesn't control his shriveled brain let alone his own incontinent bowels. This charade is 100% perpetuated by his nazi handlers.

Those filth will face their Nuremberg. Either by the recovered government, or by we the people.

[–] FederatedFreedom1981@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago

I hope the people step up their efforts. As a Canadian on the outside looking in, the protests and strikes haven't seemed to amount for much so far. They need to be a consistent effort. Don't get me wrong, they're a good start, you guys just aren't going far enough and long enough with them.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 0 points 1 day ago

Someone correct Marshawn🤦‍♀️.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought that title said Fieri for a second

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Man.....Guy Fieri was an unexpected bingo card space in the 2026 calander for.....

checks notes

......connecting in a meaningful way with Gen Z to burn down the confederacy.

Gotta say. Didn't see that one coming, but if anyone knows anything about burning, it may as well be the guy with fire on his shirt.

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Guy Fieri is an alt right sympathizer btw. Not the worst of them, but he’s not out to remove Trump either.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago
