As a none American(thank god), what am I looking at?
This is the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. You may have seen it in movies like Forrest Gump.
Trump decided to paint it blue like a swimming pool and the job looks to be going bad.
Trump personally chose the color, contractors without asking anyone really or going through the proper channels like getting approval from congress and input from the public.
In the years to come, the blue pool will mark the time during which Trump was the president of the USA. Its visitors will look down upon their reflection and see blue, as if to say they were the ones who elected him.
Why not MAGA red? 🤔

When all you know is grifting, you can't just suddenly pivot to actually bidding out and completing large and expensive projects.
It goes entirely against his nature. This is literally all he knows. I actually do not think he would even know where to start to actually build something lasting and worthwhile.
A child is doing this. A child surrounded by people who all kick his commands down the ladder, each person down the rung knowing even less how to do their job right than the Orange Twitler at the top. So by the time it gets to the last person who sends it it’s just: use some leftover blue paint they found in some warehouse from the 1980s and pay some trump crony contractor a crapload of money to hire another contractor who will be lucky to be paid to do the shitty painting job.

Jokes aside, this says so much about the way Trump sees the world. It’s a pool, so it must look like a swimming pool because that’s all he knows.
It would also explain why he thinks of the Las Vegas Strip when he hears about the Gaza Strip.

Not trying to defend Trump but I don't think that's necessarily what's going on.
Someone linked an article. The thing has cost heaps of money to maintain over the last hundred years. It leaks so bad it costs $1m a year just to keep it topped up with water.
The article says it's the marshy soil, which makes sense. The whole thing has sunk quite a bit - article says 12 inches which seems absurd. Different areas would decompose at different rates so the joints would open up all the time.
Sounds like they decided to "fix" it with a spray on pool liner stuff, which of course is blue because swimming pools are blue.
1 million a year topping it off isn't even that much, relatively. We probably spend more than that in a month on the military.
My guess would be that fixing it would be a massive undertaking, that would cost money and require a competent and qualified contractor, and that's just not something Trump knows how to do.
In these kinds of situations, all he knows how to do is grift and enrich himself, and that means really shoddy work (if there's any work at all).
Oh, it definitely seems like it is in need of repairs. But the article also says the contractor talked Trump out of a “Bahamas turquoise” color for the liner, so I feel like this is at least a little bit of both 😅
JFC, the most ghetto person in the entire country is the fucking president.
I'm laughing because I grew up in the ghetto and I saw plenty houses painted in both this color and a few in this manner. My mom would always say "free paint!"
