I have no idea what I'm looking at.

Reflecting pool between Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument in Washington D.C. in the gal'dang U S of A.

Last month it was drained to be painted with a blue swimming pool liner.

Because that's what you do when you're losing another war in Asia.

Ah! Now I see it!

I was stuck trying to figure out why someone would paint a car park blue.

I think it's the wading pool outside the Lincoln memorial.

Apparently it used to be filled with tap water.
That changed in a 2009 reno to use water from the Tidal Basin(man made resevoir) constantly circulating to avoid stagnation issues.

However, that itself caused issues. Rampant algae growth immediately became an issue, so they had to improve the ozone disinfectant system in the same year.

It was drained in 2017 to solve a parasitic snail outbreak which was killing ducks in the pool.

I think it's more a depth thing than a use case name.

Jenny from Forrest Gump did.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not generally, but I've seen people in it sometimes.

Sometimes kids get in there before their parents tell them to get out

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I never realized it was that big.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 23 hours ago

It's ginormous but only a few inches deep
