Her secret is probably living her life and not being overly concerned about others' opinions of her. We should all be so blessed.

[–] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

That's this weird Scientology guy, right?

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 103 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The secret is that Tom Cruise has remained a famous actor for the entire time. This gives him both the money and incentive to maintain a youthful and attractive appearance. Personal trainers, private chefs, anti-aging doctors, hair drugs, hair plugs, hair dye, regular skin care routine, regular preventative botox, tailored clothes, professional hair and makeup work before all public appearances.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And dont forget secret godly powers through his Scientology ties :)

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 days ago

And adrenochrome, obviously

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think his home was invaded and he was raped when he was 30, like she was for "being a successful, beautiful woman". Nor did he have the drug and alcohol addiction problems as a coping mechanism from that incident. Add in he doesn't have a genetic condition that impairs his health. All in all, I think she is doing fantastic for all that life has thrown at her. All we see of him is Scientology propaganda photos.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

OMG I had no idea all that happened to her. Why isn't that more commonly known?

[–] Watermark710@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mainly because she's not exactly a celebrity anymore, so people don't spend a lot of time talking/reading about her. But also because a woman getting raped in 1982 isn't exactly "Breaking News". There are a lot of old articles about it, but who is looking up news from 30-40 years ago? There was some chatter about it when her rapist was convicted of raping two other women in 2006, and again when her house was broken into and she was attacked in 2016.

The craziest part is that according a post she made on Facebook, she was also gang raped at age 12. She's had a very rough life.

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Millions and millions of dollars.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

They both have that. One of them just paired it with an obsession with staving off aging.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I bet cruise has more millions, he's in everything.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I bet he would be a billionaire if not for Scientology.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago

Not in my soup! He's not there, I checked.

[–] D@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Bit of a difference between 4 and 600.

Not that it matters to her worth as a person ofc but to be honest she’s still pretty imo. Aging is not this horrendous thing to be avoided at all costs. ¯\(ツ)

[–] db2@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Speak for yourself, I plan to live forever.

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounds like absolute torture to me. Imagine how bored and frustrated you’d be after seeing generation after generation of humans repeat the same mistakes over and over.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Your first mistake is planning to stay in the galactic trailer park.

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Good luck going anywhere else. Also, if anyone finds out you’re immortal they’ll probably eventually gang up on you and torture you for ages because you’re a devil or some shit.

Fuck that. Dying is a gift. The impermanence of life is essential to enjoying it.

[–] Watermark710@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Kelly McGillis, she was in Top Gun with Tom Cruise.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It annoys me so much when people take a screenshot of an image then share it. Just share the actual image...

[–] RoddyStiggs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

More and more apps and websites are blocking image downloads.

Screenshots too, but less frequently.

You could argue that's a copyright danger, but if this meme falls under copyright then fuck the law.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I don't know about iPhone but on Android you immediately can drop to the editor, drag the scale box and click share.

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the blood of infants and a pact with Lord Xenu

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

We only see the tiktoks of the kids that make it out of the Scientology building. Feeding Tom's youth is what happens to the others.

[–] TribblesBestFriend@startrek.website 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One decided to have kids and was cancelled by the studios for doing so, the other had kids and abandoned them but the studios find him sellable

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

one is a backed by a multi-billion dollar cult with its deepest roots in L.A., and the other is a woman in Hollywood who had the audacity to turn 40 at some point. she's also a lesbian, which was still a career killer in the 80s-90s.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

When was the last time you got your thetans checked?

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

First, we're comparing a candid photo to one that looks like it was taken at a film premier. Cruise knew he was going to be photographed, so he was probably assisted by a makeup artist, hair stylist, and likely a wardrobe consultant. A fair comparison would be between two photographs where each subject has equal opportunity to prepare.

Second, Cruise is one of the top movie stars in the world. He has access to personal trainers, nutritionists, private chefs, stylists, etc. As a world class movie star, Cruise also has a significant professional and financial incentive to maintain a youthful, well manicured appearance. As such, Cruise has almost certainly had some cosmetic surgery or other work done. At very least, he's dyed his hair.

Looking your best, especially in your 60s, takes a lot of work. Cruise clearly has a strong incentive to put in that work. McGillis doesn't necessarily have that same incentive. As a middle aged man myself, I could be doing a lot more to look my best, but why bother? Again, it's a lot of work and for what? So that maybe if someone snaps a candid pic of you the internet won't see it and think you're fat, old and ugly? I mean, who gives a shit, but also they'll probably think it anyway. And let 'em. Fuck 'em.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Let's not forget the power of lighting and photo re-touching, since it's a candid, street photo of her, and a publicity photo of him. He looks like a (fit) man in his 50s in candid photos. The hair in the later photo is definitely not natural, even aside from the dye.

[–] bright@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For real. I've seen recent photos of Tom Cruise where he's looking raggedly old. A runway PR press pic isn't at all representative of how a person looks compared to a pic on the street in the middle of a regular day shot by a paparazzi using a telephoto lens when the subject was unaware that their picture was being taken.

Ridiculous meaningless comparison.

And on top of that, it's totally ok for a person to just live their regular life and not spend tons of life energy trying to look a certain way.

[–] bright@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

Oh and here's how Tom Cruise REALLY looks in 2026, even in his real runway pr pics -

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A lot of female actors basically have to starve themselves and at some point they just are like "it's not worth it".

They usually gain weight. Go have a kid or two. And live a normal life.

People are surprised they got fatter and older. But that's what happens to most people.

🤷

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Most people get older?

Damnit.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Yeah I know. Crazy.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Seeing this pic makes me unhappy, i wouldn't like people repeatedly drawing comparisons between my (normal) aging rate and my plastic lizard man co-star's aging.

I probably wouldn't even like people drawing attention to my youthfulness if i was tom cruise.

Btw guys, she is FIVE YEARS OLDER than him, you know, so the visual age difference is not even as weird as the meme tries to make it.

Maybe it even makes it impressive thst she looked the same age as him in 86, since incels on twitter are always telling me women "hit the wall" when they get to 30.

Cruise was ~23 in top pic, from top gun, and mcgillis was ~28.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Low thetan counts, too.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

This is what thetans do to your body, and why Scientology is necessary to help get rid of them.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

The secret is nutritious food, personal trainer, active lifestyle and the best surgery money can buy.

[–] username_1@programming.dev 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Reyali@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I know this is correct, but my brain struggles to accept that it’s more than 20, lol.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Reyali@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Ok, that’s believable.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm going with tens of millions of dollars worth of treatments, along with making exercise and sleep top priorities (because you can and because preserving your A-list looks is actually important financially)

[–] aburrito@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How many sims you got in that phone jesus

[–] Im_old@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Two. Different operators have different coverage and/or better rates for international calls.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 3 points 2 days ago

She was older than him to begin with.
