/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Hoshi, any day. Linguistic genius. Figured out new languages without any data. For fun.

C3PO might not be as adept, as his programming might be limited. His function was a translator but did he have the capability to learn new languages?

Lwaxana is not a translator. She's a diplomat. She may be able to detect that all the alien men in the known universe want her but she can't translate their language for anyone.

If anyone from TNG was a superior translator, it was probably data. He was designed to learn and grow.

Agreed. She was so scared to sign up to join the Enterprise mission, but she did just so she could experience new languages. Smart decision by Archer to get her aboard. Even T'Pol complimented her abilities.

"I need to be somewhere else fast"

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Troi isn't playing around. When you have Odo, who can make basically "anything", if you know what I mean. That's the life ticket. You'll be chasing that forever. Kiri figured that shit out

"I need to be something else, fast" also works lol

Lwaxana, not even a contest.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Giving Nancy Reagan a run for her money.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

A Betazoid doesn't even need you to speak. Remember she caught those handsome assassins.

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 8 points 2 days ago

She's also the computer, so has all that power for her Universal Translator

"Caught"

Happened to mention something about them, totally not caring about the intent at all.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Very nonchalant, but still didn't want them to blow everyone and her up.

[–] BaraCoded@literature.cafe 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Lwaxana wins by far, she can sense the hidden intentions behind the words.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

She knows what you want to say before you even think it

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

But hand her a great work of alien literature, and it's just a bunch of squiggles.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

But can she translate it and pass it on to another?
