I swear that they do it on purpose, but every time I leave from work in the morning, this damn song plays.
Baby shark
my buddy -- on a massive zoom call all with security professionals will, when everyone takes a dog-walk break in the middle of those 3-hour calls, shout into the call and the empty offices, "Alexa! Play Baby Shark on repeat at full volume!!" and see who needs a lecture.
That one was overplayed in the first 3 seconds.
Toto - Africa
Even the singer, during one of Toto's concert they did recently (2018 or so), said right before playing Africa: "Are you ready for that song?"
2018 was eight years ago.
8 years ago is not considered recent?
That’s almost a decade ago so I wouldn’t consider that recent for much beside geography timescales.
Rehab and Back To Black by Amy Winehouse. Both songs were heavily overplayed on the radio.
My wife has been showing our 8 year old some of the pop punk songs we used to listen to as kids.
Currently he is obsessed with High Hopes by Panic at the Disco!, and while it’s an okay song — I basically have to hear it every time we all pile into the car.
My favorite song that I have over listened to is Achilles Come Down, by Gang of Youths. It’s also pretty much the only song of theirs I enjoyed. I tried a smattering of their songs 😅
Hallelijah - As a Christian I HATE it because it's crap, as a music lover / film lover I hate that it's ALWAYS used for a sad montage
This post makes me so glad I don't listen to the radio or commercials anymore.
Jeremy by Pearl Jam. I loved that song back in the day and radio ruined it.
Also, Gone Away by Offspring. It was such an amazing song when it came out.
Tainted Love, the Softcell cover. I had its bonk-bonk as my SMS tone and the loop from bonk-bonk to bonk-bonk as a repeating chunk as my ringtone ever since I had a cell phone that could take a WAV.
Nah, nevermind. It's still awesome. That, and the Littlest Hobo.
You spin me round by dead or alive. Such a shame this is the only song they are known for, they have SO much other awesome stuff.
Samething with tubthumping by chumbawamba and come and get your love by redbone. SO much underrated tracks in their discography.
I put the hook from "Freddie the Freeloader" as my ringtone on a flip phone back in like 2010. Even though I love that song, associating it with someone calling ruined it for me, and I still wince a little when I hear it.
Acdc ,thunder.....
Imagine being a White Sox fan. You have to listen to Thunderstruck each day and then watch the White Sox.
Only for them to lose.
As a Twins fan...
That might be the worst thing I've ever heard. How marvelous.
Bruno Mars’ Grenade. Not just because it was overplayed, but once you notice the sound of the beeping from a commercial truck in reverse (beeeeep beeeeep beeeeep…) you can’t unhear it.
So many. I can't think of them all but many 90s and 00s songs. Basically while I was dependent on radio for music.
The latest that I can think of, I hadn't heard in maybe 15-20 years. But I was sent a link to a cover of it. I had to turn that off within 30 seconds. I think it's forever burnt out for me and I never want to hear it again. Sixpence None the Richer - Kiss me.
After thinking for a while the most egregious is Crazy Frog. Still, decades later...
Thanks now it's in my head for the rest of the night.
I love Huey Lewis and the News
Do some Doug and the Slugs for a similar sound.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is mambo number five," Lou Bega
ACDC - Hells Bells. On too many parties and the straw that broke the camels back was an enrollment day for first graders. It was played multiple times, by the school itself.
Don't Stop Believing by Journey. I can't stand that song at all. Please play anything else.
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Not even close to their best music, but the radio loves it.
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I held on for so long but finally I can't listen to it any more. I just can't.
agree to most but the phil collins one. probably mostly because I did not experience it that much in contexts where it would annoy me
David Bowie - Let's Dance
My local "old timer" station plays this like every fucking hour. These artists have played so many other songs but because of capitalism and copyright, radio stations can't play them. So stupid.
@Pyrixas Not ruined, but the first part of the song still feels very different to the rest because my ex used it as her ringtone. "Romeo, and Cinderella" is the song
Really all songs get over played for me eventually.
Heart of gold by Neil Young.
Bam Bam by Sister Nancy.
The Weight by The Band.
Courtney Barnett in general.
Mid 2000s radio music and up. To be fair not into that music anyways. Went from ok that’s not for me to shut that crap off.
