Frequently. It helps reduce sensory overload and allow me to calm down faster.

Same, although if I take them off or forget to put them on somewhere in public, I feel very naked

Same, I look like a beady-eyed opossum without mine, so having them off my face too long in public gives me social anxiety instead 😝

They live on my face. Unless I'm sleeping or showering. My vision isn't that bad, just bad enough.

I find public pools really relaxing for this reason. I'm literally blind to all the chaos going on around me.

When I'm really tired of it all, I take them off at 2 in the morning while driving on the highway.

Curse my perfect vision.

I take them off eventually at family dinners, yeah

No but I do it with my hearing aids

Not being able to do this, and realizing how much I missed it, was the biggest surprise after getting LASIK.

I got pretty bad blepharitis once from using expired eyedrops (figured it wouldn't be a problem to use a couple of drops ... figured wrong). Lasted about a week; treatment was antibiotic eyedrops. Anyhow, during that time, it was very uncomfortable to open my eyes, and just a little more comfortable to keep them closed. So I kept them closed for most of a week.

I noticed that without my brain processing so much visual input, things seemed ... 'quieter' somehow (is the only word I can think of for it) inside my head. Less busy. More ... peaceful.

I wear glasses for distance and reading, but, of course, wasn't during my 'off week'. But relevant to OP's question, I think, is the sense of peace that came from less visual stimulation.

I have spent times without my glasses, and found it to be less ... busy. But I get eyestrain and a headache within a few hours, due to, I guess, trying to focus, or interpret, what I was seeing. So, yes, sometimes I take my glasses off to give my brain a break.

All the time... Unless I'm outside. sunglasses with a very old prescription are the sweet spot.

I often paint without glasses, or without the correct glasses. Gets rid of all pesky details.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I have an astigmatism and the eye doctor said I could use glasses. I don't really need them but they do help me see very fine details. Without them everyone looks better similar to the glow/fuzz/filter on a soap opera. With them on I can see every line on a person's face.

Im short sighted but i take that as a feature

[–] Hoohoo@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

I can't wear my glasses around people because I get an overload of eye contact. I mostly wear them for driving or cycling.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 month ago

Only when I’m driving.
