Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

The real question is how to incorporate factorio into kink...

[–] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 15 points 22 hours ago

I am convinced that game is catnip for engineers

It has everything needed to scratch the itchy parts of the engineer brain, in extremely high concentrations.

Shit's worse than heroine

I once dated a goth girl who wanted me to tie her up. I took it seriously and started learning how to do it. Researched the correct type of rope to use, the dangers associated, etc. Went to the hardware store. Built a really simple practice rig so I could practice some knots safely. Learned about which knots were safe where on the body without causing nerve damage, and how to recognize the early signs of nerve damage before the damage becomes permanent. I even got special scissors for cutting rope in an emergency.

I informed her of my progress and that we would be able to indulge in her fantasy soon. (note: I was recently diagnosed with autism) She told me I was being to extra about it and that she didn't want to do it anymore. I asked her if she'd rather lose feeling in her fingers. Needless to say that was a huge waste of time and effort. Moral of the story is either a) don't put in energy to these things without knowing it will be matched, or b) when someone says they want to be tied up just buy a roll of sex tape and safety scissors.

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 15 hours ago

Ooh! Ooh! Competence is sexy, you should tie me up instead

[–] ashestoashes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

in my experience ppl who wanna be tied up are also interested in the safety aspect, but that might just be because I attract autistic ppl, I feel bad you had a bad experience tho

[–] pringus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago

well, you came out of that with a lot more knowledge of rope bondage and safety at least

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago

There are a lot of people with impossible fantasies. They want their partner to be spontaneous but only when it’s convenient, they want a sense of danger but no real danger (but they want to believe there is real danger). It leads people to do stupid stuff like under negotiating kink scenes in the interest of “realism”. People get hurt.

You did the right thing. Some goth girl will be lucky to have you tie her up someday.

[–] bulwark@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

Look on the bright side, you're probably really good at sailing now.

Thats her loss for not wanting to be tied up correctly. I on the other hand.......

[–] Cracks_InTheWalls@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Forget her, you did good and now know all the important stuff if someone else has a similar ask.

But fr sex tape is much easier, shibari's a skill that takes practice and knowledge to avoid injury, particularly if you want to start getting fancy.

[–] deviantfemboi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

noooo that's cute please continue and find a happier goth girl

[–] endless_nameless@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I tried it with my next girlfriend after her. It was fun but I realized I'm not really into kink. I'm not even really that into sex. To me, learning all that was an act of love. I'm currently prioritizing other things now. I'm going to live life for myself now, going back to college in hopes of becoming an engineer. I'll probably forget relationships unless I'm lucky enough to meet someone very special.

[–] deviantfemboi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 18 hours ago

very nice, thanks for sharing! that's a lovely perspective.

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 15 points 1 day ago

Did you enjoy learning that stuff? If nothing else you got an anecdote out of it so I'd say it wasn't a total waste.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bro, just use like, a bathrobe belt, soft, easily removable.

Since a bathrobe belt is usually only 1-1.5m long, the amount of bondage you can do with it is in fact quite limited.

pedophile, racist, misogynist,

None of the screenshots show that though.

[–] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 23 hours ago

How is defending female pedos not supporting pedofiles? He argued that it wasn't rape because the little boy likes it.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This person has a really shallow understanding of consent. That doesn't mean that they can't learn or change their mind.

I'm also wondering why they think that communism inevitably leads to mass murder.

Yeah was reading through this and he's definitely a dumbass, but there's plenty of those types around. Using the expletives OP comment used is unjustified and would only reinforce his ideas that cancel culture comes from the left and not the right.

[–] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago

💔 This hurts to read

[–] Mandarbmax@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Oh damn, you got a source for that?

[–] call_me_xale@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

This. Play Satisfactory instead.

Shapez is good too, but Shapez 2 is much better

Open source ftw

The theme of the game is "destroy and pollute the environment of an entire planet just so you can leave", somehow I am not surprised.

I don't get why the disinterest in the theme of factorio exploring the planet or seeing the planet as anything but hostile doesn't sit weird with more people.

If the game explicitly recognized you are the villain I would be fine with it but factorio is oblivious to this and it makes the whole thing feel hollow to me.

[–] LostCarcosan@lemmy.today 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean... At risk of sounding like I'm defending a fucking pedo, and also having never played Factorio, doing terrible things and being mostly evil is something that happens in quite a few games. I don't think that alone points to anything. Otherwise fuck that guy and I hope his life crumbles

A buddy of mine has been messing around for the last couple of years with the idea of a game that's almost the opposite of factorio. Take a planet that's crazy polluted and clean out up / help nature heal. I hope he actually does it some day.

[–] deus@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That game already exists, it's called Terra Nil and is on sale right now.

Going Eco friendly in factorio is rewarded though. I think throughout the game you also realize that you are the bad person because the biters don't attack as long as you aren't polluting and destroying the environment.

Dev is still an asshole though

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I dunno how much more explicit it really needs to be, the biters attack you and get stronger directly because of the pollution you cause. The more you destroy their world the more they try to get you off it. I always felt like that made it pretty clear that you're the villain.

When both of you want to play factorio but there is only one pc

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 18 points 1 day ago

The Factory must grow. At any cost.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago

i would probably hugg----

and then spoonfeed applesauce.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

This is dumb, the whole point of factorio is to automate it enough that you can have sex for five minutes and not miss anything.
