U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on April 14 that he is proud of Washington cutting off funding to Ukraine amid Russian aggression, listing it among the Trump administration's top achievements.

Speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Athens, Georgia, Vance recalled being confronted by a Ukrainian-American over his calls to halt funding for Ukraine.

"And this person got really agitated at me because I was saying we should stop funding the Ukraine war," Vance said.

You mean the "aid" where we dump off our old military equipment and don't have to pay to dispose it any more? That aid?

Or is it just the regular aid, where Congress cuts some fat checks to Northrup, Lockheed, and General Dynamics, and all that money circulates inside the United States?

The former starts its life as the latter anyway.

Hopefully Ukraine requires no further US aid. With Orban out of the picture, maybe the EU can finally step up to help in a bigger way.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

The new guy is also a right wing peice of shit like Orban .. but hopefully he's not also a Russian asset ..

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

a right wing peice of shit

Centre-right. A marginal improvement isn't perfection but .. it's an improvement. If an end to cronyist conservatism is the only win we get today, let's take it; and plan another improvement for next time.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

Pretty sure Orban was being marketed as centre right as well, but sure, Magyar seems like a slightly less shitty piece of shit, albeit with many of the same policies as Orban.

It does seem like the best thing Orban did was to push a large number of Hungarians to engage with their system and yearn for change.

What an incredibly sad thing to admit.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago

Well, he rapes couches, soooo.....

[–] Maiq@piefed.social 37 points 5 hours ago

Fucking disgrace!

[–] homes@piefed.world 27 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I really hope the Democrats play this over and over and over again

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I really hope the citizens eventually realize that we don't have a two party system. We have a 1 party system, with some of their party cosplaying as the opposition.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

#bothSides? Whither nuance?

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Where's the nuance? Well, one side is secular, the other is Jesus flavored.

bOTh are anti-union, pro-billionaire, and anti-democracy, bOtH REFUSE to listen to even their own constituents, let alone independents, and BoTh are for sale regardless of their own proclaimed platforms.

Ds are now anti-labor (starting in the 90s with NAFTA), some workers in EASTERN EUROPE have better benefits and pay (it's a little less than USAs minimum, but worth more). Check out the minimum benefits in Poland. We have been surpassed by Poland, even though we are fantastically wealthy in comparison. Let that sink in. That's how anti-labor they BoTh are.

Rs are now openly anti-states' rights, using federal law and budgets to force States to comply; since the 2000s they have increased government size and power without regard for anything that they once stood for.

... and so on. Are they clones? No. But bOtH are for sale and BoTh ignore their own party members to do what they are paid to do by often (but not always) competing billionaire interests. They aren't even pro-USA, they are internationalist mercenaries.

What a fucking dumb asshole.

[–] jeffep@lemmy.world 16 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I so hope this gets sour quickly enough for all of us to enjoy.

The stupid Iran war has already shown that Ukraine is much more up to date with how current drone war works than the US and Trump is too dumb to see that.

Once Ukraine has kicked out the Russians and has all the expertise on modern drones wars, the US is going to come begging.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

TRAITOR.

Not just because he’s helping an enemy (or at least an adversary).

[–] cantankerous_cashew@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Unfortunately no surprise here. His boss is a known Russian associate

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 8 points 4 hours ago

We only want to support aggressors in wars. if you want the US's help, you need to 1. already have a nuke, 2. drop the first bomb.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 8 points 4 hours ago

The last thing the Trump administration wants to do is get the US involved in a war in some far away land!

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 5 points 4 hours ago

But they get the shits when no one wants to join their war in the ME

Of course they do.

So fucking tired of their shit.

Talk about shooting themselves in the foot. Who does he thinks makes all the weapons they buy with American support?
