General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

The story is more complex than originally thought by the person who posted two short clips and had claimed to have received an anonymous email with the full movie.

Paramount has conducted an investigation into the incident. As part of the ongoing probe, the company eliminated the possibility that the leak was caused by a vulnerability in its systems, sources familiar with the situation tell The Hollywood Reporter. Clips of the movie on X are still being taken down through its copyright takedown process.

The leak has also resurfaced criticism of Paramount’s decision not to go ahead with a theatre release as an animated cinematic feature.

“Anyone watching the leak wouldn’t even be watching it on Paramount+ in the first place,” posted an account on 4Chan. “It literally makes no difference.”

Another praised the animation and said the movie “deserved to be in theaters.” They added of Paramount, “You fund animation like this, and you throw it on a dead platform without any fucking advertising? The leak is deserved.”

I will not subscribe to Paramount Plus. I would, however, see this in a theater.

And this is why Starfleet Academy ranked 1st or 2nd on Amazon Channels but “didn’t find its audience” on Paramount+.

We’re dropping Paramount+ now. Neither the GenZs in our household nor my partner nor I can find anything to watch on that streamer other than Star Trek. No new Trek means it’s easy to align our values with our choice to spend our dollars elsewhere.

Exactly... by choosing not to release it in theaters, Paramount missed out of people like you or my fam. My kids and I were looking forward to it and would have gladly dragged my wife into it (the popcorn is the perfect bait for her hahahaha)

Zero chance I would have signed up for Paramount+... even if I could not find it in the High Seas after release, I would have waited for a free trial or just gone without.

I thought I was pretty up to date on avatar news, what with the new TV series starting. After reading up on this movie, I come to find out the new TV show is no longer coming out this summer but just "2027". I'm sad that Avatar doesn't get the love it deserves

Curious to see how this plays out. Paramount has a lot of options but it seems like they might just move forward like it never happened.

I can imagine the hacker say: "I just put in url: 'paramountplus(Dot)com/movies/video/the-legend-of-aang' and press enter".
