There was a non-violent option back in 2024.

The people talking about political violence are so chronically online and unserious. The real way to "rise up" involves talking to your neighbors and coworkers, forming and supporting unions, monitoring and obstructing fascist goals, etc. Real boring everyday things not superhero movie shit.

I feel like a lot of Lemmy is basically armchair anarchism of people that feel left out by society one way or the other so they call out billionaires, warmongers, just generally people who have decided on our world's course for the last two millenia or so. But the farthest they're willing to go is make edgy comments or some out-of-context quote to underline their doom thinking.

I'm not gatekeeping anarchism or saying these people should take violent action, I'm just saying it's a noticeable trend. Every once in a while you'll see some anti-immigrant post or something anti-woke and it'll fee downvoted to oblivion and it'll be commented on a lot with no real arguments (don't feed the trolls) but just hate versus hate. Activism achieved for the day.

I remember someone sharing with me many months back a few (at the time) months old post about someone considering suicide due to their struggles and guess what? There was an upvoted comment with the exact fucking same sentiment and blunt wording leaving no room for misinterpretation. People are fucked. The post wasn't even political.

I posted this before, but it seems relevant here. Not doing anything is also bad for my mental health. Organizing is probably the right answer.

There is a brutal man with a gun, controlling and threatening a group of good citizens with consciences. He's going to do terrible things to them, and make them do terrible things themselves.

They have him outnumbered, but he has the gun. If they rush him, they can easily defeat him. But, the first one or two or three or four people to move forward will be shot and probably die painfully. Going first is going to cost a terrible price and you don't know for sure that anyone else will follow you, that your sacrifice will be for anything at all.

You feel a little paralyzed and at the same time ashamed you are just standing there.

What happens next?

Put aside a global network of armchair rebels egging others on from the comforts of their distant homes. Forget the real fear in your post that taking a stand has consequences. Forget that everything on the internet is manufactured for purpose and that includes foreign and domestic bot operations, all driving their own agendas. Calm your mind and think of this inspired piece of fiction from Hollywood - Andor's Rebel Manifesto.

There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.

Just because it's fiction, doesn't mean it's not true.

I agree. It almost seems that the establishment pushes people towards the uprising to justify the use of military against people.

I hope people will wise up and see beyond the 'divide and conquer' tactics and actually unite against the system but not violently.

I think there is a good chance for that. The Shitshow now is just so bad that barely anyone can stand behind it. And with all the push towards violence people are showing restraint to answer violently. .. imo

Certain users seem to make this their life goal. I despise them. I wish being an awful person was a bannable offense but instead we have to block them one by one in order to remove the unreasonable pieces of shit from our feeds. It's exhausting.

Nothing to say about the political violence that wouldn't be, well, political, so instead I'll ask: What the hell is up with your username?

You can tell them by the glow of their eyes

(1) Hilariouschaos and Lemmy.today are well-known to be the most "conservative" right-wing instances on the Threadiverse.

(2) Most of the most popular instances have alts of people on hexbear, lemmygrad.ml, and lemmy.ml - these people are very proud of the fact that no does not mean no to them but rather that they should push forward farther, i.e. they are terminally online people, sometimes called "incels" as in blaming everyone else for their own issues.

(3) The vast majority of people are extremely lazy. Rather than step up and do any real work - e.g. moderate or even just post to a community, or best of all contribute features to the source code that implements the Threadiverse, either in PieFed or Mbin or Lemmy or nodeBB (or Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfed, Loops, etc.) - it is far easier to simply complain. Like if someone wants to Luigi someone else, then I can't stop anyone but neither do I have to listen to all that crap either, especially when the actual irl administration is just itching for such events to occur and then use them as an excuse to oh let's say abolish all voting within, oh let's say "city areas".

Their right to speak should not overrule your right to not have to listen. Then again... who is going to stop them? Your options include leaving all social media behind, including the Threadiverse, or massively curating your experiences here, either by blocking the largest communities and relying on mods of smaller ones (where the moderation work is more tractable) to do the filtering for you - e.g. !wholesome@reddthat.com is a fantastic example of a wonderful community free of such language, or the entire instance of behaw is famous for heavily curating every single comment in every single post to provide an environment free of trolling, the polar opposite of a "free speech" zone - or by doing that filtering yourself, blocking communities and users that choose to speak in that manner.

Btw PieFed offers many MANY automated tools to help with that, including keyword filters, visual icons placed next to "highly contentious" users (who e.g. receive 10x more downvotes than upvotes) so that you are alerted to their known reputation, automated collapsing or even outright hiding of content that has been heavily downvoted (I personally prefer to turn that off but if you want it... it is there for you), and more. iirc sh.itjust.works has announced that it will switch over from Lemmy to PieFed sometime in late 2026 or perhaps 2027, though you may want to not wait and get some experience with PieFed now. If you are actively wanting heavier curation of content to be done for you, then in that case I highly recommend PieFed.social with superb admins. You will still need to expend much effort curating your experiences on the Threadiverse, but the tools here make it much easier as opposed to nearly impossible. I almost left the Threadiverse entirely, but now with PieFed I feel that I can remain, and just block the enormous portions of it that are heavily calling for activities that will result in my literal, actual irl death.

At this point, there isn’t much left to use aside from political violence.

And if you look through the history of effective political change away from fascism and totalitarianism, it’s pretty much 0% peaceful protest and 100% violent revolution.

Let’s start with removing members of ICE from the gene pool. I advocate castration as a long-term option of eliminating any genetic influence of fascism on future generations (low IQ, genetic propensity for authoritarianism, genetic propensity for sociopathy, etc.), but others may be in favour of methods that can more permanently prevent these fascists from terrorizing existing citizens.
