!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

If you can stand on it and roll it with your feets, that's a log. Can't do that with a stick. Nobody ever heard of the stick rolling championships.

When a dog cannot carry it

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Are we talking Chihuahua or English Mastiff?

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Any dog.

Ankle bitter aren't dogs. If it's small enough to be drop kicked over a fence, it's not a dog it's a cruel genetic mistake made by humanity.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was going to say a human can't carry it, but yours is good too.

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Making these up.

Logs:

  • Take more than 1 hand to pick up

  • Burns for more than 30mins

  • Can cause concussion if thrown through the air.

First it must become a branch, then work its way up to being a limb, and through perseverence and bravery, it may one day be a trunk. Trunks make great logs.

[–] SolSerkonos@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

YES! It's not just stick>log. There's several steps between the two!

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

Limbs can also become logs.

When you can't wrap your hand fully around it, I'd say, is the boundary between a stick and a log.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

I feel personally attacked

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I really like this definition!

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Stick is a branch where as log is part of the trunk. Narrow trunk is called a sapling.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 1 day ago

What about branches the size of trees?

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

About two seconds after that booty clap

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

When the average person cannot lift it with one hand

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

If you can lift it with one hand, it's a stick. Possibly a staff if you'rewearing a pointy hat. A log requires at least two hands.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Gotta have those small logs, or split logs to get a good fire going

At the point where you put down the reciprocating cutter and pick up the chainsaw.

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago

If it sticks around for long enough, it eventually gets logged

Yours is a stick. Mine is a log.

..

...

..

...

You see, dicks

Depends if you've got a stove/open fire as a source of heating.

Sticks are used as kindling to get it going, logs are used to keep it going

When you can no longer hold it!

[–] TranquilTurbulence@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

When you remove a single grain of sand from a heap, and as a result, it is no longer a heap.

Some definitions have fuzzy edges. Actually most words are really fuzzy that way. Mathematical concepts are precise, but normal everyday words aren’t. Treat them accordingly.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

When diameter > 100mm

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about cords, twigs, or timber? You can't jump straight from sticks to logs.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No cords. These trees are Bluetooth.

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

bigger than your thigh

[–] actionjbone@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

When you write on it.

At the same time grains of sand becomes a heap.
