Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Lab grown meat already exists. The same processes could easily make human meat without harming the human.

I'm fairly certain this will at some point lead to a social media fad of people trying, well, people. It seems like every possible stupid action has already been turned into one at this point https://eu.app.com/story/news/world/2024/03/07/what-is-tiktok-chroming-trend/72879475007/

Onlyfans creators already sell stuff like toenail clippings and bathwater https://kotaku.com/belle-delphine-onlyfans-paypal-pornhub-bath-water-1851491916

Wouldn't be difficult to imagine people buying meat made of their favourite creator. What they do with it is between them and their god.

"Do you really want to eat Bella Thorne's ass? Well, for just $19.99 you can fry up a small part of it!"

What stuff was you on when you came up with this revelation?

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I'd just had a cousin burger

It’s called A&W and it’s amazing.

[–] isolatedscotch@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

but most importantly, did you inject or snore

Edit: snort, fuck autocorrect

[–] FunderPants@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Asleep all night, snoring drugs.

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Inject drugs by day, snore by night. All day.

So you kind of miss the obvious long term application in this scenario: buy a totally realistic dildo clone of my penis, buy a clone of my boobs etc. A step beyond just meat but the more realistic application of this technology in the sex world.

I think they'll be eating their favourite onlyfans creators, just not in the way you're suggesting.

And how do you keep that from deteriorating and decaying? It would be meat after all and meat has the nasty property to get really bad in very short time without a living body attached to it keeping it fresh.

Well planned obsolescence is a good thing for the content maker - the customer has to buy it again if they like it. The ultimate DRM?

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I feel like that will become illegal pretty quickly.

[–] bastion@feddit.nl 1 points 9 months ago

It's the only true vegan meat - given with consent.

[–] YoFrodo@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

This kind of concept is in Brandon Cronenbergs' film Antiviral

[–] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 9 months ago

There was that artist back in the early 2000s who made caviar from her own eggs.

[–] PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Pretty sure it would be considered cannibalism and made illegal

[–] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Prion City here we GOOOOOOOOO!

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 1 points 9 months ago

Where are the infectious prions coming from if it is lab grown meat? There should be the same risks with any other lab grown meat then, because prions are not something special to only human meat.

[–] BuckenBerry@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I'm pretty sure cannibalism is already legal in the United States. The problem is you can't legally acquire human meat.

[–] bane_killgrind@slrpnk.net 1 points 9 months ago

Armin Meiwes went vegetarian I just checked.

[–] ronflex@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The problem is though is who tf would wanna do that (eat it)

[–] isolatedscotch@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 9 months ago

the same people who bought the bath water, I guess

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Maybe someone who understands science way better than me can answer this, but would it be possible to grow a whole human body using the meat growing process? If so, you could buy a sex doll copy of your favourite celebrity.

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (2 children)

Currently not. Lab grown meat is a more or less homogeneous mass of muscle fiber. A few years ago we could only make what is essentially minced meat, now we're getting closer to entire steaks. Still far away from growing specific muscle groups, organs, bones and skin.

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Damn. Still incredible stuff though.

How about recreating genital tissue?

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

BONK

(You are aware that lab-grown meat is still meat and not an independent organism, right? It's essentially dead and would rot within hours if kept at room temperature)

[–] MHanak@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I mean i theory we can clone mammals, the problem is it would take a long while for your "buddy" to grow up to a usable size

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The problem with cloning would also be that a clone of a human is a human with all rights and limitations, the "buddy" would be a slave.

[–] MHanak@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)
[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Performing a lobotomy to a human sounds highly illegal in itself, but as far as I know are lobotomized humans still humans with all human rights.

[–] MHanak@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Well, that's fair enough, but i think we already abandoned legality of the whole operation at the "growing entire human body" part

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I don't think that there is a legal issue with that, as long as only a lifeless body is grown

[–] MHanak@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The problem with a lifeless body is it will quickly decompose, so it has to have basic functions like breathing and blood pumping

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

No brain but a microcontroller to give the right electric signals to the lungs and heart.

It is a fascinating Gedankenexperiment, very creepy and dark but fascinating

[–] MHanak@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That could work, yes

(Bezos if you ever do this could you give us a cut of the profits? Thans in advance)

Also i think the word you are looking for is thought experiment (unless german was a stylistic choice)

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 1 points 9 months ago

It was a stylistic choice 😎
