It’s extremely important to remember and talk widely about the republican capture of US media - this is exactly the point

They scream and scream for weeks about nothing, then bury the real news. It could be the path to fixing america

We need pirate radio

Eh, what? In the old days, the means of mass communication were limited or expensive, so sure stuff like pirate radio made sense.

But nowadays, anybody can start an Internet radio station for very little money. Or a YouTube channel or whatever. The problem is people not listening, not that they are prohibited or prevented from listening to you.

That means nothing when the search engines and algorithms don't let them show up.

[–] 8oow3291d@feddit.dk 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, yes. But how would a pirate radio be any better?

That doesn't stop people from sharing it with other people, you don't have to use megacorp services.

I keep hearing people be shocked about that line as if he's serious and I seriously question most people's reading comprehension. Can they SERIOUSLY not recognize 7 year old level mockery when they see it?

The real news story is ANNOUNCING INTENT TO COMMIT WHAT IS UNQUESTIONABLY WAR CRIMES.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 61 points 4 days ago (1 children)

People know it's mocking, it doesn't matter. If parties were reversed, they'd be literally lynching Obama

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 30 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Dude ate mustard and people lost their minds.

Actually that's not fair, they lost their minds because he was black. But still.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Don't forget the unforgivable offence that was his Tan suit

His gravest offense will always be the "terrorist fist jab"

This 7yr old is smart enough to know exactly what the media will run with and how to manipulate discourse online

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago

Our presidents have been committing war crimes for decades. Unfortunately, it isn't news.

[–] timestatic@feddit.org 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah no but if Obama said it in the same ironic manner MAGAts would freak out

Fuck that what would have happened if Biden had talked about another mans dick for 15 minutes or just started dancing, but trump gets a pass. I still don't know how that wasn't bigger news.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is what fascism is, when the followers (Fox) want to give dear leader their power.

And the rest of you fight among yourselves while the fascists run away with it

Someone again made bank on polymarket. I think he’s doing it on purpose.

[–] night_petal@piefed.social 31 points 4 days ago

At this point, it isn't even an "I think" anymore. It's just blatant.

[–] OpenHammer6677@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

I kinda think Stephen Miller is making him do it, because Trump seems to be in a worsening mental state and is suggestible

[–] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 9 points 4 days ago

God I forgot that site existed

The riots would be insane. Republicans love violence.

Not trying to rag on you specifically OP but I’m sick of these “whAT iF A DemOCRAt Did ThIS?” posts. As if pointing out the hypocrisy is helping at all. Fascists and personality cults do not care about hypocrisy.

10 years into this I don’t know who these posts are for anymore.

[–] night_petal@piefed.social 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah. This is George Takei. He is admittedly old, but has been through more than most. Once you are pushing 90, though, it's probably hard to do serious adaptation to political landscapes.

I disagree. It's clearly not for them; as we continue to get pummeled by aggrigious behavior by world leaders it habituates us the be progressively less shocked by the next insult to democracy and human rights. Checking ourselves and putting these individual acts of hate, racism, xenophobia, and fascism in perspective is the one thing we can do to try to push the bar back to where it belongs.

When the rules do not apply to you, you have to keep on publicly demonstrating this or else you lose it.

[–] gressen@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 days ago

Or raped children.

[–] Francislewwis@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

The what if the roles were reversed test always exposes how selective outrage can be.

[–] sploder@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

In a tan suit eating irregular mustard .. the world would explode

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The funniest thing about the tan suit is that there’s dozens of pictures of Reagan, Carter and other presidents wearing tan suits through the years

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He made the mistake of being black

[–] bluesheep@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

Classic mistake in America smh my head

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

If Obama did it would you say it was respectful or to be an asshole?

That's the difference here.

[–] 1dalm@lemmy.today 8 points 4 days ago

And, you know, the F-bomb.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 5 points 4 days ago

Praise his noodliness.
